GeekWire reported that Philips characterized the move as a “limited restructuring” involving specific Philips Ultrasound activities. The company tied it to an ongoing strategic transition announced in 2024. Philips did not publicly identify the precise projects, product lines or organizational units affected.
The available reporting does not establish whether workers were offered redeployment, the amount of severance, or whether additional reductions occurred outside the 33 positions.

What the Bothell campus does
Bothell is a separate city from Seattle, although it is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The campus functions as an engineering and manufacturing hub for Philips medical-device operations. In its warning letter to Royal Philips, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration identified the Bothell site as manufacturing devices including the EPIQ Elite Ultrasound system.
The 33-position action should not be read as a campus-wide reduction. It was described as involving Philips Ultrasound activities, while the physical campus also housed employees from other Philips businesses. GeekWire’s reporting put Philips’ broader Seattle-area workforce at approximately 1,500 people, a regional estimate rather than a Bothell headcount or a Philips Ultrasound total.

FDA scrutiny occurred separately
The timing creates an obvious question about whether the job cuts were linked to FDA concerns. The documented sequence is:
- January 13–31, 2025: The FDA inspected the Bothell facility.
- September 9, 2025: The FDA issued a warning letter to Royal Philips.
- November 4, 2025: Reporting on the 33-position reduction appeared.
- December 31, 2025: The reported effective date for the reductions.

In June 2026, GeekWire reported that Philips intended to put its longtime Bothell campus up for sale as part of a longer-term real-estate and workplace strategy. Philips said the property decision would not change employee roles, employment status or business operations in Bothell. If the property sold, the company said it would look for another local site for personnel and operations.

The campus-sale plan therefore provides later context, but it is not evidence that the 2025 job cuts were the first step toward closing Bothell. Philips publicly described the real-estate decision and the workforce restructuring as separate matters and said it would maintain a local presence.

- The total Philips Ultrasound and total campus headcounts in Bothell.
- Whether other undisclosed reductions occurred in the Seattle area.
- Worker-transition, redeployment or severance details.
- Whether and when the campus sale will close.
