Paycom describes its HCM platform as payroll-first software in which payroll, HR, time and labor, talent management, and compliance use one database. The goal, according to Paycom, is to reduce duplicate data entry and the need to reconcile information across separate systems. Beti adds an employee-guided payroll review before submission. Those are vendor-described capabilities—not proof that every workflow is connected or that payroll will be error-free.
What Paycom means by “single database”
Paycom presents its platform as a set of HR and workforce functions built around payroll in a shared database. In principle, common employee information can be used across those functions without entering it again or synchronizing it between separate databases. Paycom describes that architecture and its expected benefits on its HCM product page.
The practical promise is fewer handoffs and less duplicate data entry—for example, employee information used in payroll may also be used in HR and time workflows. The vendor’s description does not establish that every external system or process is included. A buyer should identify which systems remain outside Paycom and what data must still be imported, exported, or reconciled. The reviewed materials do not independently verify the underlying database architecture or measure performance across customers.
How Beti fits into the payroll workflow
Beti is Paycom’s employee-guided payroll experience. Paycom says it begins payroll using live employee data, alerts employees and managers to outstanding tasks, and lets employees review their pay and address issues before approving it for submission. The intended effect is to involve employees in checking payroll inputs before payroll is finalized, rather than leaving all review to payroll staff. Paycom describes the workflow on its Beti product page.

This is a review workflow, not a guarantee that errors cannot occur. Ask which paycheck inputs employees can inspect or change, what requires manager or payroll approval, and how unresolved tasks affect the pay run.
What the efficiency figures do—and do not—show
Paycom cites a 2023 commissioned Total Economic Impact study by Forrester Consulting. For a modeled composite organization based on interviews with Paycom clients, the study reports 90% less labor to process payroll, 85% less time spent reviewing and correcting payroll errors, and more than 2,600 hours saved annually for HR and accounting teams. Paycom’s Beti page also describes an 80% efficiency gain for HR and accounting payroll processing in connection with the study. These are modeled results, not guaranteed outcomes or measurements that apply automatically to an individual employer.

Forrester’s study is available from Paycom. Treat the figures as an illustration of potential benefits under the study’s assumptions. Your results would depend on your current systems, payroll complexity, implementation, and how much work remains outside the platform.
What to verify for your workforce
A shared database does not by itself answer whether a platform fits your existing payroll operations. In a demo, use representative employees, pay schedules, jurisdictions, deductions, and time data. Ask the vendor to show a complete pay cycle, including exceptions—not only a clean, standard run.

- Authoritative records: Which employee fields become authoritative in Paycom, and which workflows still depend on imports or integrations?
- Imported time: How are rejected records, missing punches, retroactive adjustments, and approvals handled? If you import time, ask to see validation and exception handling.
- Employee review and approvals: Which employees can review or change paycheck inputs before submission? Which changes require manager or payroll approval, and what happens when a task is incomplete?
- Coverage: Confirm supported states, countries, legal entities, worker types, and pay schedules for your proposed configuration.
- Implementation and support: Clarify implementation responsibilities, what your team must provide, support response expectations, and which services are included.
- Total cost: Request a quote for the specific tools, services, workforce size, and configuration you need, including ongoing fees.
These questions are especially important for multi-state payroll or imported time. One public discussion, titled “Looking for Advice/Questions to Ask About Paycom’s BETI Platform — Complex Multi-State Setup + Imported Time,” illustrates the kinds of workflow questions a buyer might raise; it is anecdotal, not evidence of a general product weakness. Read the discussion.
International payroll and enterprise coverage
Paycom’s enterprise page says it processes native payroll in Canada, Ireland, Mexico, and the U.K. in the same database as U.S. operations. Treat this as a vendor statement about its enterprise offering, not confirmation that every service or configuration is available in every country. If you have international employees, confirm current country coverage, legal-entity support, and the exact payroll services included for each location.

Pricing and comparing alternatives
Paycom says pricing depends on workforce size and the tools and services selected; its reviewed pricing page does not give a standard public price. Ask for an itemized quote based on your required configuration rather than comparing platforms by headline claims alone. Paycom pricing information.

- Implementation and support scope, as well as the full quoted cost for required tools and services.
Verify each provider’s current documentation and ask for a demonstration using your actual workflow. A “single database” label is useful only if the data and processes your organization relies on really fit the proposed configuration.
