What Parallels bought
ModernGigabyte, based in Louisville, Kentucky, developed ModernBill, an automated billing and hosting-automation system. The acquisition also covered ModernAuthorize, SSL Factory, ModernDNS and FraudGuardian. Parallels said it would continue ModernBill development and maintain support through the existing support channels.
Why Parallels acquired ModernBill
Parallels was combining its control-panel software with billing and back-office automation for hosting providers, service providers and resellers. ModernBill integrated with more than 15 popular control panels, making it a complement to Parallels Plesk rather than a separate consumer billing product.
DataCenterKnowledge reported that ModernGigabyte served nearly 15,000 hosting resellers with more than 2 million customers worldwide in 2008. Parallels chief executive Serguei Beloussov described the deal as a way to integrate back-office software with Parallels control panels and give service providers a more complete hosting platform.

Was ModernBill renamed Plesk Billing?
Yes—the announced product plan was to rename ModernBill Parallels Plesk Billing and add it to the Plesk family. The planned family included Parallels Plesk Control Panel, Plesk Expand, Plesk Plus and Plesk Sitebuilder.
The 2008 sources establish the planned rename and support commitment, but they do not establish an exact date when the legacy ModernBill or Parallels Plesk Billing product was discontinued. Parallels’ current end-of-life knowledge-base list does not name either product, so its omission cannot be used to assign a retirement date.

What billing software works with Plesk now?
Current Plesk documentation says that a billing system is not shipped with Plesk. Instead, Plesk identifies external systems that connect through API requests:

The available historical sources do not provide a like-for-like performance or pricing comparison.

ModernBill’s place in the product history
ModernBill was part of Parallels’ effort to offer hosting companies a connected control-panel and billing stack. After the acquisition, its intended identity was Parallels Plesk Billing. Today, the practical distinction is that Plesk documentation treats billing as an external integration category rather than as a bundled Plesk component.
