The people struggling with inbox volume are usually called chatters or DM operators—not platform moderators—and the tools range from writing aids reviewed by a person to autonomous chatbots. OnlyFans CEO Keily Blair has said the platform does not allow chatbots to manage creator accounts, leaving creators to weigh productivity against account, privacy, and trust risks.
Why creator inboxes are a business operation
For many creators, direct messages are not just conversation: they can be part of subscriber retention, paid-per-view (PPV) sales, tips, and custom-content discussions. Keeping up can mean answering routine questions, following up with inactive subscribers, and deciding which fans may be interested in a particular offer. Agencies may cover multiple accounts across shifts and time zones; a solo creator may handle the inbox personally or delegate it.
There is no established industry-wide measure of how many messages a creator can reasonably handle or how widespread the workload problem is. Vendor performance figures are not a substitute for that evidence. Bunny Chatting, for example, says AI assistance raised a typical chatter’s output from 65 to more than 240 conversations in an eight-hour shift; that is the vendor’s claim, not an independently audited benchmark. Who answers DMs—and what “moderator” means
OnlyFans uses “moderators” to describe people who review platform content for safety and policy purposes. People responding to creator-to-fan messages are more commonly called chatters, DM operators, virtual assistants, or agency staff. A creator may answer personally, grant an agency account access, or use a mixture of creator and contracted labor. A subscriber may not know whether a reply came from the creator or someone working on the account.

WIRED reported that creators and agencies were using human operators and AI-generated drafts, including workflows in which a person presses the final send button. Rest of World described tools marketed to make chatters more productive as well as a broader shift toward automation. Neither report establishes that AI has caused net job losses across the industry. Four ways AI can enter the messaging workflow

Drafting, scoring, and selling
AI systems may draw on a creator’s past messages, style instructions, sales scripts, fan histories, and information about content available for sale. They can suggest wording, identify fans with particular spending or activity patterns, recommend a PPV offer, or suggest when to follow up. Those are not merely writing functions: when software chooses who sees which offer and when, it is also participating in commercial decisions about an intimate interaction.
Bunny Chatting describes a system that fine-tunes on a creator’s message history and presents suggestions in an inbox overlay for a chatter to edit and send. WIRED described Supercreator features that prioritize higher-spending fans and flag inactive users for re-engagement. HelloFans markets conversation memory and proactive content sales. Automated replies and follow-ups
More automated workflows may send welcome messages, remind a fan about an unopened PPV message, re-engage someone who has gone quiet, or route a custom request to a human. A system that remembers names, preferences, past purchases, and personal details may sound more attentive—but that memory depends on storing or processing sensitive conversation data, and the vendor’s description does not establish its accuracy or safeguards.
What OnlyFans has said about chatbots
Keily Blair, OnlyFans’ CEO, said the platform does not allow AI chatbots to manage creator accounts. In the same interview, she said users can manually paste AI-generated text and that there is no native AI chat plugin for creators. Those statements distinguish platform-integrated automation from manually using generated text, but they do not amount to a detailed public ruling on every external drafting or agency workflow. A third-party page updated November 25, 2025 reproduces an answer it attributes to OnlyFans’ Community Guidelines, saying AI chatbots cannot be used to write chats or direct messages. It is a reproduction, not an OnlyFans-hosted policy page. WIRED also reported that the Terms of Service it reviewed at the time did not explicitly mention AI chatters, while noting prior reporting that OnlyFans had banned AI chatbots. The available statements and reproductions do not cleanly settle every distinction between drafting, human-reviewed suggestions, automated sending, agency access, AI-generated media, and text pasted manually. That uncertainty matters financially: creators may depend on an account for income, while a software vendor may control the way its tool accesses or operates the inbox. Vendors’ claims that a human approval step makes a workflow compliant are not an official OnlyFans endorsement. A policy breach could put an account or earnings at risk, but the available sources do not establish that a particular tool or workflow will result in suspension, withheld funds, or another specific penalty.
What the vendor market claims—and what those figures prove
Reporting and vendor pages show an expanding market, but adoption and performance numbers should be treated as attributed claims, not independently verified industry totals.

How AI changes chatter work
AI can increase the number of conversations handled by each worker, take over routine replies, or shift staff toward supervising systems and handling exceptions. Those outcomes can coexist: an agency might keep its chatters but assign each more accounts, while another might reduce human coverage. Rest of World focused on the exposure of Filipino workers who operate creator DMs and described AI as a means to raise output per chatter or automate parts of the role. The reporting does not establish the net employment effect across agencies.

Creators may gain more control over operations or become more reliant on agencies and software vendors. For workers, the shift may mean fewer routine writing tasks but more monitoring, escalation, and sales pressure. Whether it changes pay, staffing levels, or bargaining power depends on agency practices and contract terms; no sector-wide figures are established by the cited reporting.

A subscriber might understand a paid message as access to the creator, a personal conversation, or a tailored recommendation. If software writes or sends a reply in the creator’s voice without the creator seeing the exchange, the subscriber may have a different understanding of who is responding than the reality. Human editing can change how much a creator participates, but it does not automatically answer what a fan has been told.
Disclosure is especially consequential when an exchange involves a paid custom request, intimate conversation, or a promise of availability. Whether disclosure is legally required depends on the facts and jurisdiction; the cited material does not establish a universal legal rule. Creators and agencies still need to consider whether fans are making a purchase based on an assumption of personal attention that the workflow does not provide.

Privacy and operational risks to check
Message histories can contain names, purchases, preferences, locations, and sexual or personal disclosures. Sending them to an AI vendor creates a data-governance question, regardless of whether replies are auto-sent. Bunny Chatting claims creator-specific data isolation, encryption, and deletion at contract end; Anlora claims EU-based processing, encryption, data isolation, export, and deletion rights. - Ask whether messages train a shared model or are isolated to one creator, and whether subprocessors or model providers can access them.
- Confirm where data is stored, how long it is retained, how deletion works after cancellation, and whether you can export it.
- Check whether the system knows what a fan has already bought and whether it can respect price floors, unavailable content, and no-go topics.
- Establish a fast pause control, a message-level audit trail, and a human escalation path for sensitive requests.
- Read the contract for responsibility allocation, account access methods, retention terms, and what happens if the vendor changes its automation.
How automation can fail
The most serious failures are not limited to awkward or generic wording. A system can send a PPV a fan already purchased, offer a custom request the creator will not fulfill, confuse two subscribers, or promise a live interaction when the creator is unavailable. It could also respond badly when a fan describes self-harm, abuse, coercion, or being underage, or continue a sexual conversation after the fan says stop. These are risk scenarios, not claims that a named product has produced those outcomes.
Oversight labels can also mislead operators: “human-in-the-loop” may mean each message is reviewed, or it may mean only that a person monitors exceptions or samples output. An integration can break after a platform change, and an account owner may discover that training data cannot be exported or erased on cancellation. Increased short-term sales are not necessarily a success if they come with refunds, damaged trust, or account risk.
Questions to ask before adopting an AI DM tool
- What does it actually do? Get a precise answer on whether it drafts, recommends, auto-sends, follows up, or uses browser automation or scraping to access the account.
- What does the platform position cover? Ask the vendor for its current compliance explanation in writing, but do not treat the vendor’s interpretation as OnlyFans approval.
- Who reviews messages? Determine whether every message needs approval, which topics trigger human escalation, and whether a complete audit log is available.
- How is fan data used? Get contractual terms for training, isolation, subprocessors, storage, retention, export, and deletion.
- What can it sell or promise? Set pricing floors, exclude unavailable or prohibited offers, prevent duplicate sales, and define boundaries for sensitive conversations.
- How will fans be informed? Decide whether and how to disclose AI drafting or sending, particularly for paid personal or custom interactions.
- Does the business case hold up? Compare fees with chatter wages, agency commissions, oversight time, refunds, and account-risk costs. Treat revenue-uplift claims as marketing unless the vendor provides baselines, retention data, refund rates, and enforcement history.
The tool choice is a trade-off, not simply a contest between old and new. Human agencies can handle nuance and be accountable, but cost money and can still impersonate creators or mishandle private conversations. AI-assisted drafting can speed work while keeping a person involved, but leaves policy questions and data exposure. Autonomous systems offer coverage at scale while raising the stakes for compliance, consent, and mistakes.
