Omdia forecast in a June 3, 2024 announcement that the global data center infrastructure management (DCIM) market would reach $6.3 billion by 2030. That is a forecast, not a measured market value or a confirmed 2030 result. Omdia’s public announcement does not provide enough detail to independently reproduce the estimate.
What DCIM means in Omdia’s forecast
Omdia describes DCIM as infrastructure management spanning remote cabinets through hyperscale data centers. Its model covers six capability areas:
- Instrumentation
- Monitoring
- Control
- Management
- Optimization
- Forecasting
Omdia also groups DCIM offerings into foundational, operational, and strategic tiers, but its announcement does not define the boundaries between those tiers. The categories therefore describe the breadth of its market model rather than a published checklist for classifying individual products. Omdia’s announcement names its report DCIM Market Landscape: The role of DCIM in IT and OT convergence as covering the relationship between these areas.
What the $6.3 billion figure does—and does not—tell you
The $6.3 billion figure is Omdia’s global DCIM market forecast for 2030, published June 3, 2024. The public announcement does not state a base-year market size, which revenue categories are included, the forecasting model, or uncertainty bounds. Without those inputs, readers cannot independently calculate a growth rate from the announcement or treat the figure as a market consensus.

#1 Best Overall
Omdia’s announcement is a market forecast, not a comparison of DCIM vendors or products. It does not rank providers or establish that every organization will adopt the same capabilities.
Why Omdia expects the market to grow
Omdia gives several reasons for its outlook. It points to sustainability goals and the need to improve data center efficiency, alongside GenAI’s impact on enterprise customers. It also expects growth in server and network equipment to increase demand for monitoring and support associated with DCIM revenue. Automation, AI-enabled optimization, and as-a-service models are cited as approaches organizations may use to manage costs. These are Omdia’s stated rationale for the forecast, not causal effects demonstrated by the announcement.

How IT and operations fit into the outlook
Data center operational teams have traditionally been responsible for power and cooling, with infrastructure resilience and availability as key aims. Omdia argues that the growing importance of this operational work is contributing to IT/OT convergence: information technology and operational technology becoming more closely connected in managing facilities and infrastructure.
That context helps explain why Omdia’s DCIM model spans monitoring and control as well as management, optimization, and forecasting. The announcement does not quantify the contribution of IT/OT convergence to the $6.3 billion estimate.

Omdia’s 2024 IT budget figures
In the announcement, Omdia also reports three figures from its IT Enterprise Insights: IT Spending & Sourcing 2024 survey. They describe how that survey characterized IT budgets in 2024; they should not be generalized to all organizations.
| Share of IT budgets | Allocation described by Omdia |
|---|---|
| 65% | Maintaining existing systems and services |
| 18% | Expanding current services |
| 17% | Transformative initiatives |
These figures provide budget context in Omdia’s announcement, but it does not establish that the allocations caused DCIM spending or disclose how they were incorporated into its market forecast.
