Short answer: Office Home 2024 is a genuine one-time purchase for one Windows PC or Mac. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote for non-commercial home or school use. Microsoft lists it at $149.99 in the U.S.; a true $30 discount would make the price $119.99 before tax, but deal pages have shown different prices, including $129.97 and $114.97. Check the retailer, coupon terms and checkout total before buying.
Microsoft’s product page is the safest reference for the edition and its standard price.
What the deal actually includes
Office Home 2024 is a perpetual license, not a Microsoft 365 subscription. You pay once and can continue using that Office 2024 release without renewing a monthly or annual plan. The license is for one person on one PC or Mac and is designated for non-commercial home or school use.
- Word 2024
- Excel 2024
- PowerPoint 2024
- OneNote 2024
It does not include Outlook, Access for Windows, OneDrive storage, Microsoft 365 subscription services or an entitlement to the next major Office release.

Is it really $30 off?
Not as a universal, always-current price. Microsoft’s U.S. reference price is $149.99, so “$30 off” would mean $119.99 before tax. Indexed deal listings have instead shown the following:
| Listing | Price shown | Reference price | Apparent discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Store | $149.99 | — | Standard direct price |
| PCWorld Shop product page | $114.97 | $149.99 | $35.02 |
| PCWorld promotional article | $129.97 | $149.99 | $20.02 |
See the PCWorld Shop listing and its promotional page for the differing examples. Prices, coupons, taxes and availability can change, so treat any discount as valid only for the retailer and checkout session you verify.
What “yours for life” means
“Yours for life” is marketing shorthand for continued use of the purchased Office 2024 release. It does not mean lifetime access to every future Office version, Microsoft 365, Copilot features or cloud storage. Microsoft says one-time purchases do not include an upgrade option for the next major release.
Rank #2
- [Ideal for One Person] — With a one-time purchase of Microsoft Office Home & Business 2024, you can create, organize, and get things done.
- [Classic Office Apps] — Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.
- [Desktop Only & Customer Support] — To install and use on one PC or Mac, on desktop only. Microsoft 365 has your back with readily available technical support through chat or phone.
Microsoft may provide security and quality updates under its support policy, but those are not the same as new major-version rights or the continuously updated feature set of Microsoft 365. The license should also be treated as a single-device entitlement; check the seller’s terms before assuming it can be moved freely to a replacement computer.

PC and Mac compatibility
Office Home 2024 is sold for installation on one PC or Mac, subject to Microsoft’s current requirements. The supported macOS range moves over time because Microsoft supports the three most recent major macOS releases.
Windows requirements
- Windows 11 is the current long-term choice. Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, so it is not a future-proof environment.
- 1.1 GHz or faster, two-core processor
- 4 GB RAM
- 4 GB available storage
- 1280×768 minimum display
- Direct3D 9.1 or later with WDDM 1.3 or later for graphics acceleration

Mac requirements
- Intel or Apple Silicon Mac
- One of the three most recent macOS versions supported by Microsoft
- 4 GB RAM

Office Home 2024 versus Microsoft 365
| Consideration | Office Home 2024 | Microsoft 365 |
|---|---|---|
| Payment | One-time purchase | Recurring subscription |
| Devices | One PC or Mac | Multi-device access, depending on plan |
| Apps | Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote | Latest apps, including Outlook |
| Storage | No included OneDrive subscription storage | Cloud storage included with the plan |
| Updates | Fixed 2024 release; no next-version upgrade entitlement | Ongoing feature and version updates |
| Best for | One user who wants a fixed suite without renewals | Multi-device users, households, cloud storage or the newest features |

Who should buy it?
- Buy Office Home 2024 if you need only Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, use one computer, want to avoid recurring payments, accept a fixed 2024 release and are buying for home or school use.
- Choose Microsoft 365 if you need Outlook, several devices, multiple household users, OneDrive storage, ongoing feature updates or subscription-based cloud and AI services.
- Choose Home & Business 2024 if you want a one-time license but need Outlook or legitimate business use.
- Skip the deal if the computer is unsupported, the seller’s redemption or refund terms are unclear, or the final price is not meaningfully below Microsoft’s $149.99 reference.
The Bottom Line
Office Home 2024 can be a good value at a verified discount for one home or school user on one supported PC or Mac. Buy it as a perpetual Office 2024 license—not as lifetime access to Microsoft 365—and choose Microsoft 365 or Home & Business when you need Outlook, business rights, cloud storage, multiple devices or continuing upgrades.
