Nvidia did report quarterly revenue of about $57 billion, and CEO Jensen Huang said “cloud GPUs are sold out.” But the headline combines a real earnings result with an overbroad interpretation. The $57.006 billion figure belonged to Nvidia’s third quarter of fiscal 2026, announced November 19, 2025—not its latest reported quarter by August 16, 2026. And “sold out” referred principally to cloud data-center capacity, not every Nvidia graphics card in every retail market.
Which quarter produced the $57 billion figure?
Nvidia’s fiscal Q3 2026 ended October 26, 2025. The company announced results on November 19, reporting revenue of $57.006 billion, usually rounded to $57.0 billion. That was up 22% from fiscal Q2 2026 revenue of $46.743 billion and 62% from fiscal Q3 2025 revenue of $35.082 billion.
The detailed quarterly figures are available in Nvidia’s fiscal Q3 2026 filing and its earnings announcement.
What actually drove the record?
This was primarily an AI-infrastructure result, not a consumer gaming-GPU result. Data Center revenue reached $51.2 billion—about 90% of the quarter’s total—up 25% sequentially and 66% year over year.

Nvidia attributed demand to accelerated computing, increasingly capable AI models and agentic applications. Blackwell, the company’s newer AI-computing architecture, was a major product transition behind the growth. Revenue also includes complete platforms: multi-GPU servers, networking, software and rack-scale systems, not merely individual PCIe graphics cards. Nvidia’s filings list cloud providers, hyperscalers, system integrators, original-equipment manufacturers, distributors and add-in-board makers among its direct customers (Nvidia’s Q3 filing).
What did “cloud GPUs are sold out” mean?
Huang’s statement—“Blackwell sales are off the charts, and cloud GPUs are sold out”—described the relationship between demand and rentable cloud capacity. A customer may encounter no available instances in a particular region, a quota restriction, a waitlist or a long deployment lead time even when chips are being manufactured and other locations have capacity.

In this context, “sold out” is best understood as capacity being allocated faster than providers can make it available. It does not prove that physical GPU inventory was zero worldwide, nor that every Nvidia product category was unavailable. Nvidia later described even Hopper and much of its older Ampere-based installed base as sold out in the cloud, reinforcing that the statement concerned infrastructure capacity rather than universal retail stock (Q4 fiscal 2026 earnings-call transcript).
Were all Nvidia GPUs sold out?
No—not on the evidence available. Cloud instances, data-center systems, enterprise workstations and consumer GeForce cards are different markets.

|---|---|---|
| Cloud AI instances | Rentable GPU capacity and quotas | Region, provider, contracts and deployment schedules |
| Data-center systems | Integrated servers, racks and networking | Manufacturing, packaging, power and facility readiness |
| Enterprise/workstation GPUs | Purchased hardware for professional use | Model, distributor and procurement cycle |
| Consumer GeForce GPUs | Retail cards and laptops | Country, retailer, board partner, configuration and date |
Nvidia reported $3.7 billion of Gaming revenue in fiscal Q4 2026, while Data Center revenue was $62.3 billion. That scale difference shows why the original statement should not be read as a claim that consumers everywhere were unable to buy a graphics card. Nvidia also said channel inventory moderated after strong holiday demand in that quarter (Q4 fiscal 2026 results).
How did Nvidia’s records change afterward?
The $57 billion quarter quickly became historical context. Nvidia subsequently reported two larger quarters:

- Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface

| Q4 FY2026 | January 25, 2026 | $68.1 billion | $62.3 billion | New quarterly record |
| Q1 FY2027 | April 26, 2026 | $81.6 billion | $75.2 billion | Latest reported record by August 16, 2026 |
Q4 revenue was $68.127 billion, up 73% year over year and 20% sequentially. Q1 fiscal 2027 revenue was $81.615 billion, up 85% year over year and 20% sequentially. The Q1 results and outlook are in Nvidia’s first-quarter fiscal 2027 release.

At the high end, “a GPU” can mean a component inside a much larger platform. Blackwell and Grace Blackwell systems combine compute, memory, networking and software; Nvidia’s NVLink-based infrastructure connects GPUs at data-center scale. Nvidia said Blackwell Ultra had become its leading architecture across customer categories by fiscal Q3 2026. It introduced the Vera Rubin platform in fiscal Q4 and identified AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure among the first providers expected to deploy Vera Rubin-based instances.

That product model explains why quarterly revenue cannot be converted directly into a count of graphics cards manufactured or immediately installed. Revenue may be recognized on systems, networking equipment and related platform products delivered through several types of channel partners.
What did Nvidia guide for next quarter?
Nvidia’s Q1 fiscal 2027 outlook called for approximately $91.0 billion of Q2 revenue, plus or minus 2%. That is management guidance, not reported revenue. The outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China, so it should not be presented as a guaranteed result or as a current sales figure.
What could interrupt the growth?
Demand for AI infrastructure is strong, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted revenue growth. Nvidia identifies several dependencies and risks in its filings:
- Third-party manufacturing, advanced packaging, assembly and testing capacity.
- Export controls and changing trade policy, including restrictions affecting China.
- Limited data-center power, construction and networking capacity.
- Customers delaying, cancelling or redesigning AI projects.
- Large customers and hyperscalers representing significant demand concentration.
- Inventory and timing effects as customers move from Blackwell to Vera Rubin.
- The difference between orders, shipments, recognized revenue and usable cloud capacity.
These factors mean that a cloud provider can have intense demand while a particular region, product or deployment queue remains constrained, and they also mean that today’s scarcity does not establish a permanent shortage.

The most accurate reading is: Nvidia posted a genuine $57 billion quarterly record in fiscal Q3 2026, driven overwhelmingly by Data Center demand, while Huang said cloud GPU capacity was sold out. The headline becomes misleading when it implies that every Nvidia GPU—from a GeForce card in a retail store to an automotive chip—was unavailable worldwide, or when it presents $57 billion as the company’s latest revenue record.
