The announcement came after the company had already suspended shipments to the country; it also said employees could continue their jobs in other countries.
What Nvidia announced
Bloomberg reported that Nvidia had retained a presence in Russia after suspending shipments following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The company said that presence was intended to support its employees and their families. On October 3, 2022, Nvidia announced it would end its remaining activities in the country.
Nvidia explained its decision this way: “With recent developments, we can no longer operate effectively there.” The account was published by Yahoo Finance, republishing Bloomberg on October 3, 2022, and also by DataCenterKnowledge, republishing the same Bloomberg report that day.
How ending activities differed from suspending shipments
The report describes two stages, not one. Nvidia had suspended shipments earlier; the October announcement addressed the company’s remaining activities and presence in Russia. Treating the events as a single decision would leave out the period in which Nvidia said it stayed to support employees and their families.

What Nvidia said about employees
Nvidia said: “All employees will be given the option of continuing their jobs in other countries.” The report did not specify how many employees were affected, when any transfers would occur, or what ultimately happened to those employees.
