NTT DATA agreed to acquire Acorio on August 27, 2020, and announced the deal’s completion on October 1, 2020. Acorio continued under its own name as “Acorio, an NTT DATA company.” NTT DATA said the purchase would expand its ServiceNow consulting capabilities, workflow coverage and global delivery resources. The official deal materials reviewed did not disclose a purchase price.

When did NTT DATA acquire Acorio?

NTT DATA Services announced the acquisition agreement on August 27, 2020. NTT DATA Corporation published its announcement on August 28. The company announced that the transaction had closed on October 1, 2020; its fiscal 2020 second-quarter investor presentation also records completion in October.

Milestone Date What was stated
Agreement announced August 27, 2020 NTT DATA Services said it had entered an agreement to acquire Acorio.
Corporate announcement published August 28, 2020 NTT DATA Corporation published the transaction announcement.
Closing announced October 1, 2020 NTT DATA said Acorio would operate as “Acorio, an NTT DATA company.”

Neither the announcement, closing release nor investor presentation reviewed states the consideration, purchase price, revenue contribution or purchase multiple. The transaction terms were therefore not disclosed in those materials.

Why did NTT DATA buy Acorio?

NTT DATA presented the acquisition as a way to strengthen its ServiceNow ecosystem and give clients a broader consulting and delivery platform. Its stated expansion areas included:

NTT DATA also cited broader global delivery, an expanded portfolio and additional resources for clients. These were the buyer’s rationale and expected benefits at announcement, not independently measured evidence that every anticipated outcome was achieved after closing.

What did Acorio bring to the transaction?

In the 2020 closing announcement, NTT DATA described Acorio as a ServiceNow Elite Partner with approximately 250 employees. The company was headquartered in Boston, had nine U.S. regional hubs and an international presence in Spain and Australia. NTT DATA said Acorio served Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 organizations in healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, high tech and retail.

Those figures describe Acorio at the time of the acquisition. They should not be read as its current headcount, office network or customer base.

What “Elite Partner” meant in NTT DATA’s 2020 presentation

NTT DATA’s fiscal 2020 second-quarter presentation said its ServiceNow Elite Partner definition covered firms that specialized in five or more ServiceNow products across IT, Employee Experience and Customer Service workflows and operated in multiple geographies. That was the definition stated in the 2020 presentation; partner criteria may change over time.

Was Acorio really ServiceNow’s “largest” consultancy?

NTT DATA’s announcement called Acorio “the world’s largest pure-play ServiceNow consultancy,” and the company repeated that description in related materials. The reviewed documents do not provide a ranking methodology, comparative market study or independent verification.

As a result, “largest” is best understood as NTT DATA’s characterization at the time, not as an established statistic. The materials do not specify whether the superlative referred to revenue, employees, clients, geographic reach, certifications or another measure. Without a defined metric and comparable competitors, the claim cannot settle Acorio’s objective market ranking.

What does the acquisition mean for ServiceNow customers?

The immediate structural change was that Acorio became an NTT DATA company while retaining the Acorio name. For customers, NTT DATA said the combination was intended to add global scale, innovation and a wider range of ServiceNow services while keeping a focus on the platform.

Those statements describe the companies’ positioning and expectations in 2020. The deal announcements do not provide customer-retention data, delivery metrics, implementation outcomes or other post-acquisition measurements. Customers evaluating a provider should therefore assess the specific team, certifications, workflow expertise, geography, delivery model and references offered for their project rather than infer results from the acquisition alone.

Both statements express executive expectations and positioning at the time of the announcement; they are not independent measurements of results.
