Engadget reported on September 22, 2025, that Amazon was selling both the console and Mario Kart World bundle without an invitation. Because availability can change by product variation, location and seller, open the live Amazon listing before buying and use the button it currently shows.
The original Amazon listing is Amazon’s Nintendo Switch 2 product page. Check whether it says Add to Cart, Buy Now, Request invitation, Currently unavailable or See all buying options.

What the Amazon Switch 2 page means today
The headline “invite only” describes Amazon’s original U.S. rollout, not a permanent rule. The latest reported change said normal purchase was available on September 22, 2025, but an Amazon page can later change to standard checkout, an invitation request, no stock or third-party offers.
Live-page diagnostic
- Add to Cart or Buy Now: no invitation is required for that offer.
- Request invitation: Amazon is using an invitation system for that product variation.
- Currently unavailable: there may be no purchase or invitation option at that moment.
- See all buying options: inspect every seller before choosing one; the lowest displayed price may not be Amazon’s offer.
Check both the standalone console and the Mario Kart World bundle. Their stock status can differ.

How Amazon’s original invitation process worked
Engadget’s July 2025 report described this process for logged-in U.S. Amazon customers:
- Sign in to Amazon.
- Open the official Switch 2 listing.
- Select Request invitation.
- Confirm the request if Amazon presents a confirmation prompt.
- Monitor the email address on the Amazon account, including spam and promotions folders.
- If selected, open the Amazon invitation email and follow its purchase link.
- Complete checkout before the invitation expires.
- Review the seller, fulfillment method, final price, delivery date and order confirmation.
That report said the purchase link was valid for 22 hours. An unsuccessful request remained eligible for future selection for three months without another request. Those figures describe the July 2025 program, not a guaranteed current Amazon policy.
What an invitation does—and does not—guarantee
An invitation gives the selected Amazon account an opportunity to buy the specified listing. It does not promise a particular delivery date, another product variation, included accessories or the Mario Kart World bundle. It also does not legitimize an inflated third-party offer.
Complete payment only inside Amazon’s website or app. A genuine invitation should not send you to an external checkout page or ask for a gift card, wire transfer, cryptocurrency payment or direct payment to a seller.

Price warning for U.S. buyers
Nintendo’s U.S. suggested retail price was $449.99 before September 1, 2026. Nintendo announced a U.S. MSRP of $499.99 from September 1, 2026. The applicable price is the one shown at final checkout, and marketplace sellers may charge more than Nintendo’s suggested price.

What comes in the system package
Nintendo lists a June 5, 2025 U.S. release date. The package includes the console, Joy-Con 2 controllers, dock, AC adapter, USB-C cable, Joy-Con 2 grip, straps and HDMI cable. Games are sold separately. The system supports handheld, TV and tabletop modes; the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is optional.
If Amazon has no invitation or no stock
Check legitimate first-party and major-retailer channels rather than paying a scalper. Inventory may be shipping-only, store-pickup-only, in-store-only, member-gated or limited by quantity.

Nintendo’s My Nintendo Store invitation system was separate from Amazon’s. Contemporary coverage associated Nintendo’s launch-period process with Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online-related eligibility; a Nintendo invitation did not grant Amazon access.

Amazon buyer-safety checklist
- Read the exact Sold by and Ships from fields.
- Compare the checkout price with the applicable U.S. MSRP.
- Review delivery timing, returns and seller feedback.
- Confirm the item is Nintendo Switch 2, not original Switch hardware.
- Check whether it is an imported, Japanese-language or region-specific edition.
- Avoid listings for digital codes, accessories, empty boxes, deposits or reservations when you want the console.
- Never pay outside Amazon or by gift card, wire, cryptocurrency or external payment link.
Common problems and fixes
The Request invitation button is missing
Amazon may have moved to normal checkout, run out of inventory, switched variations, restricted the offer by location or require you to sign in. Sign in, check the standalone and bundle pages, confirm you are on Amazon’s U.S. site, try the app and desktop site, then inspect other sellers only after checking identity and price.
The invitation email never arrives
Check spam, promotions and filtered folders; confirm the account email; and review Amazon account messages. Do not trust lookalike messages that lead outside Amazon.

The invitation expires
The historical program’s 22-hour window was short. Amazon did not promise reinstatement of an expired invitation, so return to the product page and see whether another request or normal checkout is available.
Only a third-party seller remains
Compare the total price, seller rating, fulfillment, delivery estimate and return terms with Nintendo’s applicable MSRP. A substantial markup, vague delivery date or weak seller history is a reason to wait or use an authorized retailer.
Optional accessories
These are not required to use the console:
- Switch 2 Pro Controller — Nintendo lists $89.99; useful for TV play.
- Switch 2 Camera — Nintendo lists $54.99; relevant to GameChat video.
- Samsung 256GB microSD Express Card — Nintendo lists $59.99; useful for a large digital library.
- Extra Joy-Con 2 pair — Nintendo lists $99.99; useful for local multiplayer.
Do you need Amazon Prime?
The July 2025 report described the invitation system as available to logged-in Amazon customers and did not establish Prime as a requirement. Prime may affect shipping or access to other retail events, but do not treat it as a Switch 2 invitation prerequisite unless the live listing expressly says so.
The Bottom Line
Open the live Amazon listing first. Buy through normal checkout if it shows Add to Cart or Buy Now; request an invitation only if the page explicitly offers Request invitation. Check the seller, fulfillment, region, delivery date and final price, and use Nintendo, Best Buy, Target, Walmart or GameStop if Amazon is unavailable or marked up.
