The Nintendo Switch 2’s U.S. standalone-system MSRP is now $499.99, up from $449.99. Nintendo’s new price took effect September 1, 2026. The old $449.99 figure was the launch price announced in 2025; Nintendo has not said tariffs caused the 2026 increase.
How much does the Nintendo Switch 2 cost in the US now?
Nintendo of America’s current U.S. MSRP for the standalone Switch 2 system is $499.99, effective September 1, 2026. That is a $50 increase from its previous $449.99 MSRP. These are suggested retail prices, not a guarantee of what a particular retailer charges at checkout; sales tax may also affect the final total.
| Price period | Standalone system U.S. MSRP | What the date means |
|---|---|---|
| Original launch price | $449.99 | Nintendo announced this price April 2, 2025, ahead of the June 5, 2025 launch. Nintendo’s launch announcement |
| Current price | $499.99 | Nintendo announced the revision May 7, 2026; it took effect September 1, 2026. Nintendo’s price notice |
Did tariffs cause the price increase?
Nintendo’s May 2026 notice attributed the revision to “various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term.” It did not identify tariffs as the cause. The notice establishes Nintendo’s stated rationale, not a more specific explanation of which market changes led to the new MSRP.
Tariffs were part of the earlier 2025 context, but that is a separate event. Nintendo delayed U.S. preorder timing while assessing tariffs imposed by the United States and evolving market conditions. In its April 18, 2025 price confirmation, the company said the system would still launch at $449.99. Nintendo Life’s contemporaneous report covered the delay and reproduced Nintendo’s statement. It does not establish tariffs as the reason for the 2026 increase.

What happened to the launch price and bundle?
Nintendo announced the standalone system at $449.99 for its June 5, 2025 U.S. launch. In April, after the preorder schedule changed, Nintendo confirmed that the standalone system would remain at that price. The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle was announced at $499.99 at launch; it was a separate bundle price, not the standalone system’s MSRP. Nintendo also said accessory prices would be adjusted, citing market conditions.
The bundle’s launch price should not be confused with the current standalone-system MSRP. Nintendo’s May 2026 notice specifies the revised MSRP for the system; it does not establish a current bundle price.
