To find a starting size in Nike shoes, measure both feet and use the longer foot’s length with the size chart for the exact shoe. If that measurement falls between sizes, Nike’s charts recommend going up. Then check width and try the shoes with the socks and movement you expect to use.
How do I measure my feet for Nike shoes?
Nike recommends measuring at the end of the day, when feet may be slightly larger, and wearing the socks you intend to use with the shoes. Use a hard floor and a centimetres ruler if possible.
- Tape a sheet of paper to the floor and stand on it with your weight balanced.
- Hold a pencil straight down and mark the tip of your big toe and the outermost point of your heel.
- Measure the distance between the marks. Repeat for your other foot.
- Use the longer measurement to consult the appropriate Nike chart.
Nike’s measurement guide shows US footwear charts and directs shoppers outside the US to use the chart for their local market: Nike’s guide to measuring foot size.
Which Nike size chart should I use?
Start with the chart linked from the product page’s Size Guide. Nike’s adult US charts are labelled men’s and women’s; some shoes are unisex, so check the product details for the sizing basis rather than assuming which chart applies. Nike Help explains where to find the relevant guide: Nike Size Charts Help.

Match your foot length to the chart. Do not treat the CM number printed on a shoe box or label as your foot length in centimetres: Nike cautions that these are different measurements. The charts and measurement advice are Nike guidance, not a guarantee that every model will fit identically.
Should I size up in Nike shoes?
If your longer foot’s measurement falls between sizes on the applicable Nike chart, Nike recommends choosing the larger size. Use that as a starting point, then assess the exact shoe on your foot; a size increase may not solve pressure caused by a narrow toe box or a poor overall fit.

How does Nike men’s and women’s sizing convert?
Nike’s general guide says men’s and women’s shoe sizes usually differ by 1.5 sizes: for example, a women’s US 8 is likely equivalent to a men’s US 6.5. This is a general conversion, not a promise for every model or region. Check the product’s size basis and Size Guide. Nike’s conversion guidance appears in its foot-measurement article.
Do Nike shoes come in wide?
Yes. Nike’s US men’s and women’s footwear charts describe wide shoes as having approximately 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) more toe-box girth than regular width, and extra-wide shoes as having approximately 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) more. These are approximate comparisons in Nike’s charts, not identical internal dimensions across all shoes.
Rank #3
Nike names Pegasus and Monarch among its lines made in wide and extra-wide fits. Availability depends on the specific style, size, and market, so confirm the width option on the product page. If length seems right but your toes feel squeezed, check whether a wider version is available rather than automatically choosing a longer shoe. See Nike’s measurement and width guidance.
How should Nike shoes feel when I try them on?
Try the shoes with your intended socks and mimic the movement or activity you bought them for. Nike identifies these as possible signs of a poor fit:
Rank #4
- A tight or pinched toe box.
- Irritation around the heel or ankle.
- An arch that feels too far toward the heel or ball of the foot.
- Heel slippage.
For running shoes specifically, a Nike Canada article published July 8, 2024, says they are intended to fit true to size with approximately a thumb’s width between the big toe and the end of the shoe. The article also notes that someone who prefers a tighter fit may have toes touch the end, but they should not curl over. Treat this as running-shoe advice, not a universal rule for every Nike shoe or activity: Nike Canada’s running-shoe fit guide.
