The Motorola One 5G arrived at Cricket Wireless on August 25, 2021, for a reported outright price of $259.99. The offer required no trade-in, port-in, installment agreement, or new line, according to contemporary launch coverage. The catch was timing: this was a 2020-era phone reaching Cricket nearly a year after its initial announcement. In 2026, that price and availability are historical facts, not a verified current deal.
What Cricket actually launched
Cricket’s device was the standard Motorola One 5G for the AT&T network family, not Verizon’s Motorola One 5G UW and not the later Motorola One 5G Ace. AT&T support identifies the Cricket-compatible variant as model XT2075-2 (see AT&T’s device page).
The phone had already reached other U.S. carriers before Cricket’s announcement. That made the launch “tardy” in a commercial sense: Cricket was adding an aging model while newer budget 5G phones were beginning to appear.
The August 2021 deal, in plain English
The reported Cricket price was $259.99 paid upfront. The launch report described no trade-in, number port-in, monthly device financing, or new-line requirement. Those terms applied to the reported launch offer on August 25, 2021; they do not establish a current Cricket price or inventory position.

Why it was compelling for a prepaid buyer in 2021
A smoother-than-usual budget screen
A 90Hz refresh rate made scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on many inexpensive 60Hz phones. The large 6.7-inch panel also suited streaming, maps, and browsing, although its size could make one-handed use difficult.
More capable mid-range performance
The Snapdragon 765 was well above entry-level hardware in the 2021 prepaid market. Contemporary coverage described it as faster than the cheaper Moto G Stylus 5G and Motorola One 5G Ace in that comparison. That does not make it fast by 2026 standards, but it helped with everyday apps and moderate gaming when new.

Useful capacity without immediate expansion
Nominal 128GB storage left more room for apps, photos, and offline media than many low-cost phones. A microSD slot offered additional capacity, though usable internal storage is lower after Android and preinstalled software.
A large battery at a low upfront cost
The 5,000mAh battery addressed the power demands associated with a large 90Hz display and 5G radio. Battery capacity alone does not reveal present-day health: an unused phone manufactured around 2020–2021 can still have an aged cell.

Cricket compatibility is a model-number question
“Motorola One 5G” is not a sufficient description when buying a used or imported unit. Motorola’s compatibility chart lists Cricket with the AT&T variant and identifies support for Sub-6 NSA 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi Calling, and video calling. The same chart lists T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Sprint, and other networks as unsupported for this model. Check Motorola’s carrier compatibility information before purchase.
AT&T’s approved-device document includes One 5G model numbers XT2075-2 and XT2075-5, while noting that features can depend on the carrier or authorized-market software: AT&T approved-device list.
Best Value
- Amazon Renewed condition : May have few minor scuffs or scratches; Single SIM.
- This device is Factory Unlocked and will work with all major GSM carriers. Network bands in regions may be different depending on the mobile operator and your location. Available storage is less and subject to change due to device software updates and apps usage.
- For 5G and network compatible-to ensure that this phone can be used with your carrier, please check to make sure that the phone supports the 5G-enabled frequency used by your carrier.
- 90 days store limited warranty. Ships in non-retail box; Premium aftermarket charger and USB Cable only.
- Ask for a clear photo of the model and IMEI screens.
- Confirm that the listing is XT2075-2 or another specifically approved AT&T variant.
- Check whether the phone is carrier-locked and eligible for unlocking.
- Verify Cricket activation and 5G compatibility before the return window closes.
- Do not assume a Verizon One 5G UW or international model will behave the same way.
Even an approved model does not guarantee 5G everywhere. Coverage, plan eligibility, SIM provisioning, local deployment, and current carrier policies still determine service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How it differed from other Motorola names
| Phone name | Why it is not interchangeable |
|---|---|
| Motorola One 5G | The standard AT&T/Cricket model discussed here; XT2075-2 is the key identifier. |
| Motorola One 5G UW | Verizon-specific configuration; not a like-for-like Cricket device. |
| Motorola One 5G Ace | A later, different phone with different hardware and support characteristics. |
| International One 5G models | Band, firmware, locking, and carrier approval may differ. |
A marketplace title that says only “One 5G” can therefore hide the most important buying detail.
What changed by 2026
The Cricket launch was nearly six years ago. The inspected sources do not verify that Cricket still sells the phone, that $259.99 remains available, or that authorized retailers have new units. Motorola says update timing depends on the specific device, carrier, region, and certification requirements; its software-upgrade page also warns that plans can change (update process; current upgrade information).
That age creates practical risks:
- Security and Android support may be limited or finished.
- Old inventory may have reduced battery health.
- New authorized stock and manufacturer warranty may be difficult to find.
- Used listings may be locked, incompatible, missing accessories, or impossible to activate.
- Remaining stock can be priced above newer phones because it is scarce.
Android 11 in a later AT&T specification record is not proof of security updates continuing through 2026.

Potentially suitable
- Cricket users who want a large 90Hz display, substantial battery, and 128GB storage.
- Buyers who can verify the AT&T model, IMEI status, lock status, and return policy.
- Someone finding a genuinely low-priced unit with documented battery condition.
Usually a poor fit
- Anyone prioritizing long-term software or security support.
- Users needing modern 5G bands or easy switching among carriers.
- Photography-focused buyers expecting premium image quality.
- Gamers seeking current high-end performance.
- Buyers who need a guaranteed current Cricket listing or manufacturer warranty.
Verdict
The Motorola One 5G was an excellent 2021 prepaid value: $259.99 bought a 90Hz display, Snapdragon 765, 128GB storage, a 5,000mAh battery, and Sub-6 5G without the usual promotional conditions. Its weakness was visible even then—the phone was already late to Cricket—and that weakness dominates the 2026 decision. Unless a used, refurbished, or leftover unit is unusually cheap, has healthy battery capacity, and is confirmed as the AT&T-compatible model, a newer supported Cricket phone is the safer purchase.
