What Swift’s tenure means in context
The Hartford described Swift’s time as CEO as nearly 13 years, including more than 12 years as chairman, and said he led a transformation toward a more focused and disciplined insurer. The company’s September 30, 2026 announcement also reported that net income return on equity more than tripled and its share price increased more than eightfold during his tenure. Those comparisons are figures stated by The Hartford in its succession announcement, not independent verification. The Hartford’s announcement
The company biography says Swift was named CEO in 2014 and cites acquisitions and the exit from its run-off life and annuity business as elements of his tenure. Swift’s official biography

Why The Hartford says the transition is planned this way
The timetable keeps Swift in a board and advisory role as Tooker takes over the CEO post. Trevor Fetter, The Hartford’s lead independent director, called it a “thoughtful succession plan” intended to preserve strategic continuity, business momentum, and operational strength. That is the board leader’s stated rationale, not a guarantee of future business results. The Hartford’s announcement
