Mint still operates under its own name, and a $15-per-month offer is available to eligible new customers as of August 18, 2026—but that is a term-based price, not a promise that every customer’s bill will stay at $15 forever.
What T-Mobile bought—and when
T-Mobile acquired Ka’ena Corporation, the parent of Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile and Plum, making Ka’ena a wholly owned T-Mobile subsidiary. The deal closed on May 1, 2024. T-Mobile reported a maximum purchase price of $1.35 billion, with final consideration dependent in part on performance. T-Mobile’s 2025 Form 10-K confirms the closing date, ownership and purchase-price terms.
This was an acquisition, not just a network or marketing partnership. But it did not mean Mint was immediately renamed or absorbed into T-Mobile’s main consumer brand.
What changed for Mint customers
Mint remains a separate prepaid brand with its own plans and account channels. Mint said customers would see no immediate plan changes and would not need to take action solely because of the acquisition. There is no general requirement for an existing Mint customer to migrate to a T-Mobile-branded plan. Mint’s acquisition announcement explains its customer-facing position.

- True Unlimited High-Speed Data at 4G/LTE speed on T-Mobile Network in USA.
- Unlimited calls within the USA, International texting and personal hotspot at 3G speed.
- Calls, texting, and data can also be used in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
- The activation takes up to 2 Hours.
That assurance was about the immediate impact of the ownership change—not a guarantee that plans, promotions or service policies can never change. Customers should follow the terms attached to their own plan and renewal.
Mint uses T-Mobile’s network, but it is not T-Mobile postpaid
Mint says it operates on the T-Mobile network. That network relationship does not make Mint’s billing, plan benefits, support or device offers identical to T-Mobile postpaid service. Mint is prepaid and commonly sells service in multi-month blocks; T-Mobile postpaid may be a better fit for someone who values monthly billing, device financing, family-plan administration or carrier-specific benefits. Mint’s network update describes its network relationship.
Do not assume a T-Mobile postpaid feature—such as a particular roaming, hotspot or support benefit—comes with Mint. Check the specific Mint plan terms and your device needs before switching.

What the $15 price promise means
The acquisition-era commitment was that Mint would continue to make a $15-per-month plan available. It was not a lifetime price freeze for every customer. As of August 18, 2026, Mint’s current offer lets eligible new customers choose qualifying 3-, 6- or 12-month plans at a $15 monthly equivalent. The offer applies to the 6GB, 17GB, 23GB and Unlimited plans, requires payment for the selected term up front, and excludes taxes and fees. Mint says the promotion began July 1, 2026. The promotion terms set out the eligibility and term conditions.

- What the price does mean: an eligible plan can cost the equivalent of $15 per month during the promotional initial term.
- What it does not mean: every existing customer automatically gets the offer, all taxes and fees are included, or the same price is guaranteed for future renewals.
How much you pay up front
The monthly equivalent can obscure the amount due at purchase. For Mint’s current Unlimited offer, the service charges are:
| Selected term | Monthly equivalent | Upfront service price | Additional cost or condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | $15/month | $45 | Taxes and fees extra |
| 6 months | $15/month | $90 | Taxes and fees extra |
| 12 months | $15/month | $180 | Taxes and fees extra |
These are current offer amounts, not a promise of the same price on renewal. Mint’s Unlimited plan page lists the term prices. Check the live plan page and the plan terms at checkout: promotional prices and renewal rates can change, and the price applicable after the initial term may be different.

What the plans include—and what to verify
Mint’s current lineup includes 6GB, 17GB, 23GB and Unlimited data plans. Mint’s FAQ says the Unlimited plan includes the first 50GB at 5G/4G LTE speeds before possible deprioritization or slower speeds under the plan’s terms. Allowances and plan details can change, so confirm them on the current plans page before buying. The Mint FAQ provides plan and policy details.
Mint also says customers can cancel within seven days of activation for a 100% refund of the purchase price, including fees and taxes, subject to its applicable policy terms. Review the FAQ and policy before relying on that window, particularly if you have already activated service.

Mint’s low monthly equivalent is most useful when the upfront payment fits your budget and you can use the service for the full prepaid term. Consider these checks before signing up:

- Coverage: Confirm that T-Mobile coverage works where you live, work and travel. A network map is a guide, not a guarantee of the signal or speed you will get indoors or at busy times.
- Phone compatibility: Check that your handset is compatible and, if bringing it from another carrier, unlocked. Confirm compatibility before porting your number.
- Renewal cost: Find the post-promotion price and term you would choose next. Do not budget on $15 indefinitely unless the applicable renewal offer says so.
- Data and extras: Match the plan to your expected data use, hotspot needs and travel requirements; verify those details in the plan terms rather than assuming another carrier’s benefits apply.
- Flexibility: A longer prepaid term may lower the monthly equivalent, but it also ties up more cash and makes changing providers mid-term less convenient.
Mint may be less suitable if you need conventional monthly postpaid billing, extensive family-line management, device financing, frequent trade-in promotions or broader travel features. Compare the total cost and benefits with T-Mobile’s current plans if those features matter; T-Mobile’s separate price-promotion terms are not the same as Mint’s offer. See T-Mobile’s price-lock FAQs for that program’s conditions.
Check older phones for the 2026 network change
The acquisition did not itself require a phone change, but a separate network update may matter to some owners of older devices. Mint said T-Mobile’s retirement of an older network security standard could affect certain devices beginning April 1, 2026. Most newer phones were expected to be unaffected; some devices introduced in 2017 or earlier could lose certain functions. Mint said voice calls and basic texting were expected to continue, while some call-management functions and, on Android, some large MMS messages could be affected. Check Mint’s network update for device-specific guidance before relying on an older handset.
