Microsoft’s Bing $1 million giveaway was a real, official Microsoft Rewards sweepstakes, but the 2024 campaign ended on December 31, 2024. It offered one $1 million cash grand prize and, according to HotHardware’s contemporaneous report, ten $10,000 prizes. It is not a current way to win money.
Was the Bing $1 million giveaway real?
Yes. The promotion was Microsoft Rewards’ 2024 Ultimate Giveaway, announced by Microsoft in October 2024 and governed by official sweepstakes rules. Microsoft promoted it to encourage Bing searches and other Microsoft-related activity; it was not an investment or a guaranteed payment for switching search engines. HotHardware reported that the prize pool included one $1 million grand prize and ten $10,000 secondary prizes. How the 2024 Microsoft Rewards sweepstakes worked
Participants needed a Microsoft account, then had to claim the free entry and could pursue additional entries through eligible promotional activities. The options described at the time included setting Bing as the default search engine, installing the Bing app, sharing a referral link, and completing other activities. HotHardware said entries could take up to 72 hours to appear.
Under the official rules, eligible Bing searches could earn one entry per day when Bing was set as the default search engine. This daily-search provision was one entry route, not a promise that every search earned an entry. The rules specified that the $1 million grand prize would be paid in cash by wire transfer to a qualified bank account in the winner’s name. Who could enter—and when did it close?
Microsoft’s October 2024 announcement named residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany as eligible to enter. The campaign closed on December 31, 2024. Its free entry, entry limits, and other conditions applied under the official rules; a referral link or social-media post by itself should not be treated as proof of eligibility.
Is Microsoft’s $1 million Bing promotion still open?
No. The 2024 Ultimate Giveaway is over. Microsoft later ran a separate 2026 promotion called Total Prize Drop, but it also closed: its FAQ gives the campaign period as March 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time through May 21, 2026, at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific time. That promotion had a different prize lineup—one $1 million cash grand prize, three Mercedes-Benz first-place prizes, and daily instant-win opportunities—and a daily chance required a Bing search with Bing set as the default search engine.
