Reuters reported on August 21, 2025, that the services would include servers, storage, networking and other cloud services. The deal adds outside computing capacity to Meta’s broader AI build-out, but public reporting does not disclose which workloads will run on Google Cloud, where they will run or how much capacity the contract provides.
What the reported agreement covers
Reuters and The Information reported the agreement based on people familiar with confidential discussions. Meta and Google had not publicly announced the contract in the reporting summarized here, and no public contract or pricing schedule was available. The Information described it as one of the largest known agreements in Google Cloud’s history.
The services named in Reuters’ account—servers, storage and networking—describe broad cloud infrastructure, not a disclosed allocation of specific AI chips or a dedicated share of data-center capacity. The public accounts do not specify whether the contract includes AI accelerators, what services will be used for particular Meta products, or how the workload will be divided among locations.
Why Meta is adding cloud capacity
Meta is expanding computing resources for larger AI workloads while continuing its own data-center program. In separate Reuters reporting, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta would spend “hundreds of billions of dollars” expanding computing capacity for AI. That broader effort helps explain the strategic context, but it does not establish how much of Meta’s AI work the Google contract will support.

Meta already had reported cloud relationships with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Oracle and CoreWeave. The Information said adding Google Cloud could give Meta more supplier flexibility and negotiating leverage with AWS and Azure, as well as help it serve users around the world. Those are possible strategic benefits, not published measures of savings, performance or capacity delivered.
How the deal fits Meta’s wider infrastructure plans
Reuters reported in 2026, citing an internal Meta memo, that the company planned to double its total computing capacity again, targeting 14 gigawatts in 2027, and expected to spend as much as $145 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026. These figures describe Meta’s broader plans—not the value of the Google contract or the amount of capacity Google will supply.

Compute is only one part of the build-out. Reuters also reported that Meta had long-term supply agreements involving Samsung Electronics for memory chips, SanDisk for flash storage and Sumitomo Electric for fiber-optic equipment. These deals indicate that scaling infrastructure depends on more than cloud-provider contracts; the reporting does not assign those suppliers’ products to the Google agreement.
What the deal means for Google Cloud
For Google Cloud, supplying a very large technology company would add a significant customer relationship amid a series of AI-related cloud agreements. The Information characterized the contract as among the largest known in Google Cloud’s 17-year history. For Meta, another large provider can expand sourcing options, but public reporting does not show whether Google will be a primary supplier or one of several providers for any particular workload.

What remains unknown—and what consumers can infer
The reports do not publish comparable prices, performance results or vendor-by-vendor capacity figures. They also do not state the contract’s regional deployment plan, workload allocation, payment schedule or share of Meta’s total computing needs. Without those terms, readers cannot calculate the contract’s annual cost, estimate its contribution to Meta’s AI capacity or rank Google against Meta’s other providers on price or performance.
For personal-finance readers, the announcement is evidence of a large corporate infrastructure commitment, not evidence by itself of a change to Meta’s consumer prices, advertising costs, earnings or share value. Those outcomes would depend on undisclosed contract economics and how the capacity is used. The reported headline amount should therefore be kept separate from Meta’s much larger company-wide spending plans.
