A GeekWire Tech Moves roundup published October 9, 2024, reported that Paresh Rajwat had stepped down as Meta’s Pacific Northwest head of office during the summer, while remaining identified as a Meta vice president of product management. The same roundup reported that Seattle biotech company Phase Genomics hired David Shoultz as its first chief business officer. These are historical announcements; the available reporting does not establish the people’s current roles.
What changed in Meta’s Pacific Northwest leadership?
Rajwat had led Meta’s Pacific Northwest office for the preceding two years and had spent about a decade at the company. His regional office role was distinct from his broader position as a Meta vice president of product management. The October 9, 2024 report said he stepped down from the regional post during summer 2024 and planned to focus on angel investing, advising, and board service. It did not say he had left Meta entirely. GeekWire’s report also noted his earlier experience at Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo, and other companies.
A large regional operation, but no successor named then
GeekWire reported that Meta had more than 8,000 employees in the Pacific Northwest. Rajwat described the region as Meta’s largest technology hub outside Menlo Park. In his account, the local work spanned engineering, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, monetization, Reality Labs, and Family of Apps. Those scale and ranking descriptions are attributed to the report and Rajwat, respectively; they are not a current workforce count or independently established ranking here.
A regional office leader can be an important point of contact for recruiting, civic engagement, office strategy, and relationships with local institutions. The report did not specify whether Meta eliminated or restructured the position, assigned its responsibilities temporarily, or later named a successor. No replacement had been announced at publication.

Why did Phase Genomics create a chief business officer role?
Phase Genomics, a Seattle biotechnology company, hired David Shoultz as its first chief business officer. This was a newly established C-suite position, not a reported replacement for a departing executive. Shoultz had co-founded Monod Bio and served as its chief operating officer; he had also held leadership roles at the Gates Foundation and directed PATH’s global drug-development program.
Founder and CEO Ivan Liachko said the appointment was intended to accelerate adoption of Phase Genomics’ technologies. The company works on sequencing and analyzing DNA from organisms that can be difficult to study, including through genomic-proximity, or Hi-C-based, methods. Its work also includes detecting chromosomal abnormalities, including those relevant to tumors. Phase Genomics’ news archive includes the GeekWire coverage.

What the title does—and does not—tell readers
A first chief business officer often signals an effort to organize commercial development, partnerships, or market expansion. In this case, Liachko’s stated goal was broader adoption of the company’s technologies. The report did not provide a job description, sales or licensing remit, revenue target, customer list, or commercialization forecast, so it does not establish which specific responsibilities Shoultz held.

- It did not establish Shoultz’s detailed remit, reporting line, compensation, start date, or commercial targets.
- The roundup is a dated record, not a status check. It does not establish whether any person listed later changed roles.
