Meta’s Hyperion is a planned, multi-gigawatt artificial-intelligence training campus in Richland Parish, northeast Louisiana—not a completed data center. In a July 13, 2026 expansion announcement, Meta said the project is being expanded to 5 GW of compute capacity and represents more than $50 billion in regional investment. Louisiana Economic Development separately describes a nearly 10-million-square-foot campus with 5 GW of IT capacity.
What is Meta’s Hyperion data center?
Hyperion is Meta’s largest planned AI training cluster. It is part of the company’s Richland Parish data-center campus in northeast Louisiana, where Meta is building infrastructure for training and operating large AI systems. The July 13, 2026 announcement describes an expansion; it does not establish that the full facility is already built or operating.
Meta Chief Financial Officer Susan Li summarized the infrastructure rationale in the company’s October 21, 2025 joint-venture announcement: “Our AI ambitions will be realized through our ability to deliver the infrastructure to support it.”
Where is Hyperion, and how large will it be?
The campus is in Richland Parish in northeast Louisiana. The project’s reported size depends on which source and technical term is used:

| Measure | Reported figure | Source and date | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compute capacity | 5 GW | Meta, July 13, 2026 | Meta’s announced target for the expanded AI-compute buildout. |
| IT capacity | 5 GW | Louisiana Economic Development project page, accessed in 2026 | The state agency’s description of the expanded campus’s information-technology capacity. |
| Building area | Nearly 10 million square feet | Louisiana Economic Development project page, accessed in 2026 | The agency’s reported campus footprint; it is not a statement that all space is complete. |
“Compute capacity” and “IT capacity” are not presented as separate capacities in the cited announcements; they are the wording used by Meta and the state agency, respectively. A final delivered capacity and construction schedule have not been independently established.
How much is Meta investing in Hyperion?
Two large figures appear in separate announcements, but they cover different scopes and should not be added together or treated as competing estimates of one identical project cost.
| Amount | Scope | Announcement | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| More than $50 billion | Regional investment associated with the expansion in Richland Parish | Meta, July 13, 2026 | Company-reported regional investment figure. |
| Approximately $27 billion | Total development costs for buildings and long-lived power, cooling and connectivity infrastructure | Meta, October 21, 2025 | Joint-venture development-cost estimate. |
The available announcements do not provide a reconciliation showing how the regional-investment figure relates to the joint-venture development-cost estimate. Readers should therefore avoid describing either number as Hyperion’s final price tag.

- Space Saving: Maximum depth: 14.8". Use the wall mount network cabinet to maximize available space for retail locations, classrooms, back offices, network cabinets, and other locations where space is limited.
- Fast Heat Dissipation: The server cabinet is designed with vents to optimize airflow and avoid critical IT equipment overheating. Heat sink holes in the top, bottom, and rear panels are more conducive to heat dissipation.
- Sturdy Construction: Robust welded frame construction for durability and long service life. With 100 lbs wall-mounted load capacity and 200 lbs ground-mounted load capacity, you can place multiple devices in the server rack cabinet as needed.
- High Security: The locked glass door ensures the security of data and equipment. Wall mount rack enclosure server cabinet is ideal for use in public places such as offices, effectively protecting the security of your devices.
- Hassle-free Installation: Fully adjustable square-hole mounting rails of the wall mount server cabinet facilitate device installation. Wiring holes on the top, bottom, and rear panels provide you with easy cable routing.
Who owns and operates the campus?
Funds managed by Blue Owl Capital own 80% of the campus joint venture, while Meta owns the remaining 20%, according to Meta’s October 21, 2025 announcement. Both parties committed to fund their pro rata share of the approximately $27 billion development costs.
Meta is expected to provide construction and property-management services and lease the completed campus. This structure separates ownership financing from Meta’s role as the principal tenant and operator of the site’s data-center activities.
What jobs and local spending are being claimed?
Meta’s July 2026 expansion announcement projects more than 7,500 jobs at peak construction and 1,000 operational roles once the campus is complete. These are projections, not a final headcount. Earlier announcements cited different stages: Meta’s October 2025 joint-venture release referred to more than 500 operational jobs, while Louisiana Economic Development’s page carries older highlights of 800 or more. Those figures should be read in their original dates rather than blended.

- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
- Meta says more than $1.6 billion has been contracted with Louisiana businesses since groundbreaking.
- Meta reports more than $1 billion invested in local infrastructure.
- Meta announced $5 million for Louisiana Delta Community College scholarships and workforce training.
These spending and employment figures are company-reported activity or projections. They do not independently prove the eventual economic impact. Rachel Peterson, Meta’s vice president of data centers, characterized the activity this way: “With more than $1.6 billion already contracted with local companies and thousands of jobs being supported, we’re delivering real economic impact alongside the AI infrastructure that will power the future.”
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said on the state development agency’s project page: “This commitment from Meta puts Louisiana at the center of America’s future in artificial intelligence, positioning our nation to compete and lead globally.” That is an advocacy statement, not an independent measurement of project results.

Power availability is a central part of the buildout. Meta says its agreement with Entergy includes:
Rank #4
- An intelligent fan system designed for cooling audio video, DJ, server, network, and IT equipment racks.
- Protects rack-mount equipment from overheating, performance issues, and shortened lifespans.
- Programmable thermostat controller with automated speed control, alarm warnings, and backup memory.
- Premium anodized aluminum construction with CNC-machined detailing for a professional appearance.
- Size: 1U Rack Space | Design: Top Exhaust | Airflow: 60 to 300 CFM | Noise: 12 to 38 dBA | Bearings: Dual Ball
- Seven natural-gas-fueled power plants;
- Three grid-scale battery systems;
- Nuclear-plant uprates; and
- Additional purchased power.
Meta also says the arrangement is expected to produce approximately $2 billion in additional Entergy customer savings over 20 years, on top of $650 million previously announced—a combined company-described expectation of $2.65 billion. The cited materials do not independently verify that those savings will appear on customers’ bills.
For its own energy use, Meta says Hyperion will support up to 2.5 GW of clean and renewable energy and will match 100% of the campus’s energy use with clean and renewable energy. Those are company commitments; the announcements do not establish completed projects or realized environmental outcomes.
What is still unknown?
- The final construction cost and whether it will differ from the announced estimates.
- The date when the full 5 GW buildout will be completed and operational.
- The final number of permanent operating employees.
- Whether projected ratepayer savings will be realized and how they will be allocated.
- The delivered performance and environmental results of the planned power and clean-energy arrangements.
Until those points are documented, Hyperion is best understood as an announced expansion under construction and development, not as a finished 5 GW facility.

What does Hyperion mean for households and investors?
For households, the direct significance is regional: construction activity, utility infrastructure, workforce programs and potential changes in electricity-system costs. The announcements do not establish a consumer product, retail service or guaranteed personal financial benefit tied to Hyperion.
For investors and local observers, the key distinction is between commitments, projections and completed results. Meta’s $50 billion regional-investment claim, the joint venture’s approximately $27 billion development-cost estimate, job forecasts and expected utility savings each describe different scopes or future outcomes. Comparing them requires keeping the source, date and status attached to every figure.
