Yes, the MarineMax breach was real, but it is not a new 2026 attack. MarineMax detected unauthorized access on March 10, 2024, later characterized the incident as ransomware, and state filings reported 123,494 affected individuals. Written consumer notices were recorded on July 16, 2024. The information involved may have differed from person to person, so the national total does not mean every individual lost every type of data listed in later notices.
What happened in the MarineMax cyberattack?
MarineMax said it detected unauthorized access to part of its information environment on March 10, 2024. The company activated incident-response and business-continuity procedures. MarineMax reported some disruption during containment but said operations continued in all material respects.
Its initial Form 8-K described an investigation that was still developing and used limited language about sensitive information. In an April 1 amendment, MarineMax said the affected environment had been remediated and that a limited amount of data had been exfiltrated, including some customer and employee information and personally identifiable information. The March SEC filing and April amendment show how the company’s description became more specific over time.
In later correspondence with SEC staff, MarineMax characterized the event as a ransomware attack. Cybersecurity reporting linked the incident to the Rhysida group, but MarineMax’s public SEC filings reviewed for this article do not name Rhysida. There is also no verified evidence in those sources that MarineMax paid a ransom.

These are people listed in breach notifications; the records do not establish that every person was a MarineMax customer or employee.
State databases do not use identical date fields. Maine lists March 10, 2024 as the breach and discovery date. California records list March 1 and March 10 as incident dates and July 16, 2024 as the reporting date. MarineMax’s SEC disclosures center on its March 10 discovery date.

What information may have been exposed?
MarineMax’s SEC amendment broadly referred to customer and employee information and personally identifiable information. Later breach-notice material and complaint summaries identified categories that may have included:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s-license or other government-issued identification number
- Address
- Financial-account information
- Medical information
- Health-insurance information
These categories should not be read as a complete profile for all 123,494 people. The notice language indicates that the information varied by individual. Check your own letter to determine which data elements, if any, MarineMax associated with you. The detailed categories come from later notification and litigation material, not from the company’s initial SEC announcement. (reported notice details)

What protection did MarineMax offer?
The Maine filing says MarineMax offered affected individuals 24 months of Experian identity-theft protection. The related complaint describes the offer as 24 months of identity-monitoring services. The public filing does not establish that enrollment remains open indefinitely in 2026, so use the instructions, website and deadline printed in your individual notice.
Monitoring and a credit freeze do different jobs:
- Monitoring can alert you to certain changes or suspicious activity, but it does not necessarily prevent someone from applying for credit in your name.
- A credit freeze restricts access to your credit file for new-account applications. You can temporarily lift it when you apply for credit and reinstate it afterward.
You may consider enrolling in the free offer if your notice provides a valid enrollment path, and placing freezes separately if Social Security or government-ID information was involved. Neither step reverses data that may already have been copied.

Mainly applied to hide information such as social security numbers, bank statements, billing addresses, shipping addresses, tax documents and so on, protecting your personal information
- Re Inking Unlimitedly: the information blocker stamp can cover information of the length about 100 meters. And each security stamper roller has an oil hole, so you don't have to worry about you having to throw away the roller stamps when the ink runs out. They can be refilled with oil for repeated use, saving time and energy

- Save Time and Energy: compared with the shredder, the personal confidential stamp has a small size, easy to carry, can be applied anytime and anywhere. What should affected people do now?
- Authenticate the notice. Use contact information printed in the mailed letter or an independently verified MarineMax channel. Do not rely on an unsolicited email link.
- Enroll before the stated deadline. Follow the Experian instructions in your notice and save the confirmation. The public filing does not guarantee that an old enrollment code still works.
- Review your credit reports and statements. Look for unfamiliar accounts, hard inquiries, withdrawals, medical claims or insurance activity.
- Consider freezes. Place a freeze with each of the three nationwide credit bureaus if your exposed-data notice includes Social Security or government identification numbers. Remember that a freeze must be lifted when legitimate credit applications require access.
- Secure reused credentials. Change passwords connected with MarineMax or reused elsewhere, and turn on multifactor authentication wherever available.
- Watch for convincing phishing. An attacker may know your name, address or relationship with MarineMax. A legitimate remediation process should not demand money, bank credentials or unknown software installation.
- Keep records and report fraud. Preserve the notice, enrollment confirmation and suspicious messages. Contact financial institutions through official numbers and use the appropriate government identity-theft reporting channel if fraud appears.
Paid identity-monitoring services are not automatically necessary. They may be relevant if you never received the MarineMax offer, your enrollment period expired, or you want coverage beyond the offered service; however, no subscription can remove information already exposed.
Is there a MarineMax data-breach lawsuit?
Lomedico v. MarineMax, Inc. was filed on July 29, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The complaint alleges inadequate data-security practices and argues that 24 months of monitoring was insufficient. Those statements are allegations, not court findings. The docket summary also indicates that a related MarineMax action was later consolidated, but the materials available here do not establish whether the litigation was dismissed, settled, certified or otherwise resolved. Do not assume that filing a complaint creates an automatic right to compensation.

Bottom line
MarineMax’s 2024 ransomware-related incident affected 123,494 people according to state filings. The attack was discovered in March 2024 and consumer notices were recorded in July 2024. Your practical risk depends on the specific information tied to your notice, not simply on the headline count. Verify any notice, use the offered Experian protection if its deadline remains open, consider credit freezes for sensitive identifiers, and remain alert for identity theft and phishing.
