The FDA posted the announcement on December 10, 2024; it was not a newly issued FDA-initiated recall. As of October 4, 2026, the “just issued” framing is outdated, and the available notice does not establish whether the recall has since been terminated or closed.
Which MadeGood granola bars were included?
The notice names eight varieties: Chocolate Chip, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Cookies & Crème, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla. Riverside said the products were produced between January and November 2024 and distributed in Canada, the United States, and other international markets.
The recall applies to specified batches, not every MadeGood bar. Match the product and package against the affected-product table in the FDA-hosted company announcement. It lists the affected package sizes, UPCs, and best-by dates. Pay attention to the table’s stated exclusion for a “Z” after the best-by date; do not decide based on flavor or brand name alone.
Why were the bars recalled?
Riverside said a piece of metal could be present in the products, creating a potential safety hazard if consumed. The company described the recall as precautionary. Its December 9, 2024 announcement said “no injuries have been reported.” That statement describes what the company reported at announcement time; it is not a current injury count or an independent FDA finding.
#1 Best Overall
The notice identifies eight varieties but does not give a total number of bars or packages recalled. FDA hosted the company’s announcement as a public service and says it does not endorse the product or company.
What should you do if you have a listed package?
- Check the package against the notice. Compare its variety, package size, UPC, and best-by date with the FDA-hosted table, including the “Z” exclusion.
- Return a matching recalled product to the store where you bought it. Riverside’s announcement says consumers can receive a full refund.
- For questions, check the live notice for current contact details. The announcement listed MadeGood’s consumer hotline as 855-215-5695, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, and directed consumers to the MadeGood website. Contact information can change.
FDA’s general food-recall guidance says to follow the instructions in the specific recall notice. If disposal is appropriate, dispose of the food properly rather than giving it to another person or a pet. The FDA guidance also explains how to clean and sanitize surfaces that contacted contaminated food.
