Apple announced the M4 iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro between October 28 and 30; those Macs became available November 8. The iPad mini arrived earlier, on October 23, with an A17 Pro chip—not an M4.
What Gurman predicted
In an October 2024 report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman described a late-October Apple product wave that could include a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4, higher-end 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max, a redesigned M4 Mac mini, an M4 iMac and a new iPad mini. The report said at least some products could launch on Friday, November 1; it did not establish that every device would be available that day. MacRumors’ contemporary coverage of the report also noted that shipping delays for customized Macs were being read as a possible sign of an imminent refresh. Delays were a clue, not confirmation.
What Apple actually announced—and when products became available
Apple staggered its announcements across several days. Announcement, preorder and retail availability are different milestones, which explains why a November 1 prediction can appear close to the launch while still being wrong about the actual date.

What changed in the M4 MacBook Pro
The entry configuration was a 14-inch MacBook Pro with standard M4: a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory and 120GB/s memory bandwidth. Its U.S. launch price was $1,599. Those are October 2024 launch details, not a statement of current pricing.

What changed in the Mac mini
The redesign reduced the desktop to a 5-by-5-inch footprint and offered M4 or M4 Pro. The base M4 configuration included 16GB unified memory and had a U.S. launch price of $599; M4 Pro started at $1,399. Thunderbolt 5 was available on the M4 Pro model. These are historical U.S. launch prices from October 2024, not verified current prices. Apple’s product details are in its Mac mini announcement.

For a household budget, the $599 computer price is only part of the setup: a Mac mini does not include a display, keyboard or pointing device. It can be an economical desktop if you already own compatible peripherals, but those purchases can materially raise the total. M4 Pro is more appropriate when workloads such as development or media production benefit from additional capacity and connectivity; ordinary office work may not justify the higher starting price.
What changed in the iMac
The 24-inch iMac moved to M4 and kept its all-in-one format: the display is integrated, unlike the Mac mini setup. Apple announced it October 28, and it became available November 8. Its launch announcement positioned the update around performance and Apple Intelligence.

The trade-off is practical: an iMac offers a tidy, ready-made desktop arrangement, while a Mac mini lets buyers select or reuse their own display and peripherals. The iMac’s integrated screen also means less flexibility to upgrade the display separately.
The iPad mini was a separate, earlier launch
The 2024 iPad mini used Apple’s A17 Pro chip, not M4. It was introduced October 15 and became available October 23, ahead of the rumored November 1 date. At launch, the U.S. Wi-Fi model started at $499. Apple listed USB-C, Apple Pencil Pro support and Apple Intelligence among its features. The price is the historical launch price, not a current quote. Details are in Apple’s iPad mini announcement.

Apple Intelligence support is not a guarantee that every feature is available to every owner at once: availability depends on supported hardware, operating-system version, language and region. The mini’s compact screen is useful for reading, travel, note-taking and tablet-oriented apps, but it is not a substitute for a Mac when desktop software or sustained professional workloads are required.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the prediction sounded plausible
Apple had already brought M4 to the iPad Pro earlier in 2024, while the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac were candidates for silicon updates. Customized Mac shipping delays added an inventory signal, and Apple had staged a late-October Mac rollout in 2023. Gurman’s reporting gave the prediction credibility, but none of those factors amounted to an Apple schedule announcement. The distinction matters: analyst reporting can identify a likely product cycle without pinning down the final date or availability of each item.

Which product makes sense for your budget?
Choose a MacBook Pro when mobility and sustained work matter
A laptop buyer who needs a built-in screen, strong sustained performance and pro connectivity has a reason to consider the MacBook Pro. M4 Pro or M4 Max makes more sense for demanding video, 3D, software-development, scientific, audio or AI work than for browsing and routine office tasks. For lighter workloads, compare the MacBook Air before paying for Pro features; Apple’s product page is the MacBook Air lineup.
Choose a Mac mini if you already have a desktop setup
The Mac mini is a compact option for buyers who can reuse a monitor and input devices, or who prefer choosing those components separately. Include any needed peripherals and storage in the total-cost comparison rather than judging by the computer’s base price alone. It is not the right sole computer for someone who needs portability.
Choose an iMac for an integrated home or office desktop
An iMac suits buyers who value a straightforward all-in-one setup and do not need laptop portability. Its built-in display can simplify purchasing, but it limits the flexibility to replace or upgrade the screen independently.
Choose an iPad mini for portability, not desktop replacement
The iPad mini is aimed at tablet uses such as reading, travel, games and note-taking. Its smaller display is a portability advantage, but can be limiting for long editing sessions or extensive split-screen work. Buyers seeking a larger tablet workspace can compare the iPad Air; for a lower-cost general tablet, consider the standard iPad.
Verdict on the November 1 headline
Gurman was directionally right about an October wave of M4 Macs and a refreshed iPad mini, but November 1 was not the final retail launch date. The iPad mini arrived October 23; Apple announced the Macs from October 28 to 30 and made them available November 8. The most useful way to read the original report is as an early product-cycle forecast, not a confirmed shipping calendar.
