It is not a hiring shortcut. If you mainly browse listings or submit applications passively, free LinkedIn is usually the better value.
LinkedIn currently lists a U.S. starting price of $39.99 per month or $239.88 per year (an average of $19.99 per month when paid annually). Prices and offers can vary, so the amount shown at checkout controls: LinkedIn’s Premium Career pricing page.
What LinkedIn Premium Career costs in 2026
LinkedIn’s current U.S. price signal is $39.99 monthly or $239.88 annually. Paying the monthly starting price for a full year would cost about $479.88 before tax, so the listed annual plan is approximately 50% less. LinkedIn says pricing varies by location, billing frequency, account, and offer; verify your own checkout screen rather than relying on an older review. A third-party page still cites $29.99 monthly, illustrating why that figure should not be treated as a universal 2026 rate: ClickReach’s pricing reference.
LinkedIn may offer an eligible free trial. Eligibility can differ by account, and LinkedIn says a member who redeemed a trial for the profile within the previous 12 months may not qualify for another: LinkedIn Premium.

| Billing choice | Listed starting price | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $39.99 per month | A one-month test or a short, intensive search |
| Annual | $239.88 per year | Only when you expect to use Premium throughout the year |
At the listed monthly rate, three months would be about $119.97 before tax if the price remains unchanged. Annual billing is cheaper only if you actually use the access; an unused year costs more than a targeted one- or two-month experiment.
What Premium Career includes
Feature availability can vary by country, language, account, job posting, and LinkedIn experiment. LinkedIn’s comparison page is the controlling feature reference: Premium Career plan comparison.
| Feature | What it does | Potential value | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five monthly InMails | Messages people outside your network | High for targeted outreach | No guarantee of a reply, referral, or interview |
| Top Applicant | Highlights roles where LinkedIn estimates a stronger match | Medium for prioritizing applications | A platform estimate, not an employer endorsement |
| Top Choice | Signals stronger interest in selected roles | Low to medium | Not a guaranteed ranking or hiring boost |
| Applicant insights | Shows additional job-posting and skills context | Medium for selective applications | May be incomplete, modeled, or delayed |
| Advanced filters | Adds job and people-search options | Medium | Free search may already cover your needs |
| Profile-view history | Provides fuller viewer information and trends, described by LinkedIn as up to 365 days | Medium when converted into outreach | Private viewers remain unidentified and views do not prove intent |
| AI profile and message tools | Drafts profile, post, and message language | Low to medium | Availability is limited by geography and language; editing is essential |
| LinkedIn Learning | Access to 25,000+ courses according to LinkedIn’s comparison page | High for committed learners | Course quantity does not establish quality or employment results |
InMail is access, not guaranteed recruiter contact
Five credits make targeting important. Prioritize a recruiter assigned to the function, a hiring manager for a specific opening, an alumnus at the target company, a professional who recently entered your target role, or a second-degree connection who can provide context. A generic “I’m looking for opportunities” message is less useful than concise, role-specific outreach.
Use this structure:
- Explain why you selected the recipient.
- Name the role, team, field, or shared connection.
- Give one relevant qualification or result.
- Ask for a small action, such as a brief perspective on the team.
- Make clear that there is no pressure to respond.
Do not send a long autobiography, paste your resume, ask immediately for a job, or send identical messages to several people at one employer. InMail should be judged by meaningful replies and conversations, not messages sent.

Job and applicant insights need skepticism
“Top Applicant,” job-fit guidance, and applicant comparisons can help you decide where to spend limited time. They do not equal a hiring-manager review, a validated interview probability, or complete information about every applicant. Treat them as prioritization aids and check the actual job requirements yourself.
Profile views can become a useful signal—or a distraction
Premium can show more profile-view history, but LinkedIn’s privacy settings mean some viewers remain anonymous: LinkedIn privacy FAQs. A view could come from a recruiter, a former colleague, routine research, or someone unrelated to hiring. Review viewers once or twice a week and act only when the person is relevant; repeated monitoring is vanity tracking.
AI assistance requires human editing
AI drafts can speed up a headline, About section, or outreach note, but unedited output often sounds generic, inflates claims, repeats keywords, or describes experience inaccurately. Keep only statements you can support with real work, results, and examples. LinkedIn says some AI drafting features are currently limited to English and the U.S.
Learning has value only when you use it
LinkedIn’s comparison page says Premium includes 25,000+ LinkedIn Learning courses. A February 2026 Department of Labor guide uses a different course-count figure, so counts vary by source and should not be read as a guaranteed catalog size: Department of Labor guide. Learning is worthwhile when you choose courses tied to a target role, complete them, and turn the material into portfolio work, interview examples, or demonstrable skills. Check first whether an employer, school, public library, or workforce program already provides access.

Free LinkedIn versus Premium Career
Free LinkedIn already supports finding colleagues and classmates, viewing profiles, recommendations, job searches, applications where enabled, up to three saved searches with weekly alerts, and networking with existing connections: LinkedIn’s account comparison.
Premium mainly adds information, out-of-network access, and workflow tools. It does not replace a credible profile, tailored resumes, referrals, interview preparation, portfolio evidence, employer career sites, or specialist job boards.
Who should buy Premium Career?
Good candidates
- Active job seekers applying and networking every week.
- Career changers who need introductions in a new field.
- Senior candidates targeting recruiters or hiring managers directly.
- People whose industry relies heavily on LinkedIn.
- Users who can identify at least three to five specific people they genuinely need to contact outside their network.
- Learners with a concrete course plan and no equivalent free access.
Poor candidates
- Passive applicants who mainly submit listings.
- People with incomplete or inaccurate profiles.
- Anyone who will not use the InMails or complete courses.
- Job seekers who need to conserve every dollar.
- People whose field hires mainly through government portals, academic systems, trade channels, union halls, specialist boards, or direct employer applications.
- Anyone expecting a paid badge to fix weak response rates.
Monthly or annual billing?
Choose monthly when you are testing Premium, expect a concentrated search, or are unsure whether InMail and Learning will matter. Choose annual only after you know you will use the tools for most of the year and the account-specific price is confirmed. A lower monthly equivalent does not make an unused annual subscription economical.
A measurable one-month Premium test
Before subscribing
- Record current profile views, recruiter messages, applications, interviews, and response rate.
- Define target titles and companies.
- List three to five potential InMail recipients.
- Note recurring skills in target job descriptions.
During the month
- Rewrite your headline and About section around the target role.
- Improve skills and experience evidence; add work samples or certifications where relevant.
- Use Top Applicant, job-fit, and applicant insights to prioritize rather than mass-apply.
- Send all five InMails only when each recipient and request is specific.
- Review profile viewers once or twice weekly and contact relevant people.
- Complete one or two job-relevant Learning courses.
- Apply through the most suitable channel, including the employer’s site when appropriate.
- Track replies, referrals, recruiter conversations, screens, and interviews.
At the end
Calculate cost per meaningful reply, referral, recruiter conversation, and interview. Also count useful contacts, completed courses, avoided low-fit applications, and time saved. Compare those results with what free LinkedIn and external resources could have produced. This is a decision framework, not a promised return.

What Premium does not do
- It does not guarantee interviews, recruiter replies, or employment.
- It does not establish that Premium members receive automatic hiring priority.
- It does not turn a “Top Applicant” label into an employer recommendation.
- It does not create experience, references, portfolio evidence, or employer demand.
- It does not replace company career pages, referrals, professional associations, staffing firms, government portals, or specialist boards.
Trial, cancellation, and refunds
LinkedIn says Premium features, including InMail, generally continue until the end of the billing cycle after cancellation. Credits and benefits then expire: Premium account FAQs.
The cancellation route depends on where you subscribed. Website purchases are managed through LinkedIn; Apple purchases can be canceled through the LinkedIn app on an Apple device; Android subscriptions may be managed through LinkedIn or Google Play. Follow the channel identified for your subscription.
LinkedIn says a Premium charge may be refundable within seven days if Premium has not been used. That is a policy condition, not a guaranteed refund in every case.
- Check the renewal date immediately after subscribing.
- Set a reminder several days before renewal.
- Save the receipt or confirmation email.
- Cancel through the correct billing channel.
- Confirm auto-renewal is off and save the confirmation.
- Check the next card or PayPal statement.
Do not assume every trial has the same length or cancellation behavior; read the offer terms shown at checkout.

Alternatives to Premium Career
| Your main goal | Likely first choice |
|---|---|
| Free networking and ordinary LinkedIn applications | Free LinkedIn |
| Broad job-listing coverage | Indeed, plus employer sites |
| Employer reviews and salary context | Glassdoor |
| Student and university-connected recruiting | Handshake |
| Direct application to a known employer | The employer’s career site or applicant-tracking system, such as Workday |
| Structured skills development | LinkedIn Learning or employer, school, library, and workforce access |
If money is tight, resume or portfolio editing, interview practice, transportation, professional clothing, certification fees, reliable internet, a professional association, or a targeted networking event may produce more immediate value than Premium.
Final recommendation
Stay with free LinkedIn if you only need listings or apply occasionally. Try one focused month if you have a credible profile, a defined target, and at least three to five people worth contacting outside your network. Consider two or three months for an active career change or senior-level search. Consider annual billing only after a successful test or when LinkedIn Learning alone justifies the commitment.
Premium Career is a tool subscription, not an employment guarantee. Its value comes from disciplined outreach, selective applications, useful learning, and measurable follow-through—not from the badge itself.
