On April 21, 2026, Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust announced eight new general members and two associate members. The announcement also made the Open Tokenized Asset Standard (OTAS) an LF Decentralized Trust lab—an open development effort for smart-contract reference implementations, not a declaration that a finished standard has been adopted across the market.

Who joined LF Decentralized Trust?

The April 21 announcement named eight general members and two associate members:

Membership category New members
General members Affinidi; Espresso Systems; FairSquareLab; First Person Cooperative; Hashlock; Horizen; Innovation Labs by Identity Digital; Matter Labs
Associate members Advanced AI Society; ERC-3643 Association

The release gives the categories but does not compare their membership rights, so the labels alone should not be read as evidence that the two categories have identical participation terms. The full announcement is available from The Linux Foundation.

What does it mean that OTAS became a lab?

OTAS is described as open-source smart-contract reference implementations for tokenized financial instruments. OpenAssets proposed the project, with Sui Foundation/Mysten Labs named as an initial sponsor. As an LF Decentralized Trust lab, it has a place within the foundation’s open development ecosystem; the announcement says the aim is to provide a neutral, auditable onchain foundation that institutions can build upon or integrate with production platforms.

That status is a development milestone, not proof that OTAS is finalized, independently validated, widely deployed, or accepted as a universal industry standard. The announcement does not provide independent adoption or performance figures. Institutions evaluating it would still need to review the project’s technical materials, governance, implementation maturity, and suitability for their legal and operational requirements.

Why the foundation’s role matters

LF Decentralized Trust hosts open development across blockchain, distributed ledger, identity, cryptographic, and related technologies. When the Linux Foundation announced its intention to form the organization in 2024, it described an umbrella for Hyperledger projects and additional open-source software, communities, standards, and specifications for decentralized systems of distributed trust. That context helps explain why a lab announcement concerns collaborative development rather than a product launch or financial endorsement.

In the April release, Johnna Powell, then-re-elected chair of the LF Decentralized Trust Governing Board, described the ecosystem’s work as “remarkable.” Daniela Barbosa, the Linux Foundation’s general manager for decentralized technologies and LF Decentralized Trust’s executive director, said trust had become a “mission-critical layer” across financial, government, supply-chain, and other decentralized ecosystems. These are attributed statements from the announcement, not independent evidence of market-wide adoption.

What the announcement says about implementation support

For organizations considering enterprise blockchain deployment, the release identifies Besu Certified Service Providers (CSPs) as companies designated for demonstrated proficiency and vetted capabilities to help enterprises adopt and deploy LF Decentralized Trust projects. FairSquareLab was already a Besu CSP, while ioBuilders had completed the requirements to become one. The release does not establish referral terms or availability; organizations should confirm a provider’s current status and scope directly.

A separate example: Brazil’s Ligue 180 hotline

The release also points to Ligue 180, Brazil’s National Violence Against Women Hotline, as a Hyperledger Fabric case study. It says the system provides tamper-resistant complaint records while protecting victims’ privacy and allowing authorities to audit records. The system is operated by a BrBPO–Metasix Tecnologia consortium for Brazil’s Ministry of Women. LF Decentralized Trust’s announcement says more than 2,000 women turn to the hotline each day; that figure is attributed to the announcement and is not presented here as independently verified.

How the April announcement fits the later timeline

On September 24, 2026, LF Decentralized Trust announced 15 further members, including Swift, Wells Fargo, Sui Foundation, and Interchain Foundation. The update also described Panurus as a token-infrastructure project, CLPR as a cross-ledger messaging protocol lab, and Hyperledger Cacti 3.0 as cross-chain infrastructure. These are later developments and are distinct from the ten members named in April. See the September update.
