Lenovo announced the IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 (14-inch, Gen 9) on September 5, 2024, with a reported U.S. starting price of $849. The convertible Windows 11 laptop pairs Qualcomm’s eight-core Snapdragon X Plus with a 45-TOPS neural-processing unit (NPU), a 14-inch OLED touchscreen and 16GB of memory.
That $849 figure was an announcement price, not a reliably confirmed August 2026 street price. Lenovo’s currently indexed U.S. page says “Available Soon,” so anyone shopping now should verify the exact SKU, storage, stock status, warranty and return policy before paying.
What Lenovo announced
Lenovo introduced the IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 at Innovation World during IFA 2024. The model was positioned as a more affordable Snapdragon laptop than the company’s premium Yoga Slim 7x. Lenovo’s announced U.S. schedule called for availability in October 2024 at a starting price of $849; the contemporary report said the U.S. configuration was expected to include 16GB of RAM and a 1,920 × 1,200 display. 9to5Google’s launch report noted that Lenovo had not confirmed the storage capacity of that $849 configuration.
Lenovo’s U.S. site later listed the product as the IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 Gen 9 (14-inch Snapdragon). Its indexed page currently displays “Available Soon” rather than a dependable live price: Lenovo product page.

“Up to 1TB” describes the product family, not necessarily the base model. The datasheet lists 512GB and 1TB choices, while the original U.S. price report left the $849 drive unspecified. Do not assume the cheaper configuration includes a 1TB SSD. Lenovo announced an optional Base Pen 3.0; a pen should not be treated as included unless the listing says so.

Why Snapdragon X Plus mattered
The IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 was among the first more affordable IdeaPad systems built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X platform. ARM architecture can reduce platform power consumption, while the integrated NPU is designed to handle supported on-device AI tasks without sending every operation to the cloud.
The 45-TOPS rating meets the hardware class associated with Copilot+ PCs. It does not guarantee faster results in every application: real performance depends on Windows features, application support, thermal limits and software optimization. Copilot+ features can also vary by Windows release, language, region and Microsoft’s rollout schedule.
OLED display and convertible design
The 16:10 OLED panel is the laptop’s most distinctive hardware feature. OLED pixels can switch off individually, producing deeper blacks and higher perceived contrast than a typical budget LCD. Full DCI-P3 coverage also suits color-conscious photo and video work better than a narrow-gamut panel.

At 1,920 × 1,200 and 60Hz, however, this is not a high-refresh or high-resolution panel by 2026 premium-laptop standards. Lenovo’s announcement does not establish outdoor visibility, PWM behavior, power draw in mixed use or pen latency. The hinge supports laptop, tablet, tent and stand positions, which can be useful for note-taking, presentations and travel.
Windows-on-ARM compatibility: check before buying
Windows 11 on ARM can run many everyday programs, including browsers, Microsoft 365, streaming services and video-call software. x86 and x64 emulation broadens the catalog, but compatibility is not universal and emulated software may perform differently from native ARM64 builds.

- Native ARM64 support, or acceptable emulation, for every essential application.
- Drivers for printers, scanners, audio interfaces, VPN clients, security tools and other peripherals.
- Plug-ins, codecs and extensions used by Adobe, production or content-creation software.
- Virtual-machine, container, compiler and development-tool support if you code or administer systems.
- Engineering, scientific and enterprise applications that may depend on x86-only components.
- Game launchers and kernel-level anti-cheat systems; some titles may not work correctly on ARM.
For a student or office user whose work is primarily web-based and Microsoft-compatible, these limitations may never appear. A buyer with a specialized printer, proprietary corporate utility or anti-cheat-dependent game should obtain confirmation from the software or hardware vendor first.

Battery, portability and everyday costs
The 57Wh battery, approximately 1.5kg weight and Wi-Fi 7 support make the design attractive for commuting and travel. Lenovo’s “up to 21.5 hours” figure is specifically a video-playback estimate from its datasheet. Brightness, OLED content, emulation, conferencing and background applications can produce materially different endurance, so treat the number as a ceiling rather than a promise of 21.5 hours of general work.
Two USB-C ports are described as full-function ports with display output and power delivery, but a buyer should still confirm charger wattage, dock behavior and external-display limits for the exact SKU. LPDDR5X memory is specified; verify whether it is soldered before purchase because non-upgradeable RAM makes the initial 16GB choice more important.

The $849 U.S. starting price belongs to Lenovo’s September 2024 announcement. Lenovo also cited a starting price of €999 for EMEA, with availability expected from September 2024. Neither figure establishes what a retailer must charge today.

Before treating a listing as a bargain, check:
- Exact model number and whether it is new, refurbished or clearance stock.
- Processor, RAM and SSD capacity, rather than relying on family-level “up to 1TB” language.
- Whether the charger and optional pen are included.
- Current stock, delivery date, sales tax, return window and warranty coverage.
- Whether the seller is authorized and whether replacement parts or support are available.

The newer IdeaPad alternative is listed at Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 5x Gen 11 page. It may make more sense for buyers prioritizing a current platform and availability. The older Gen 9 model remains more distinctive if a verified listing offers the OLED convertible at a sensible price.

The practical decision is not simply “Snapdragon versus Intel or AMD.” It is whether the exact software, peripherals and storage configuration you need are available at the price and support level offered today.
