They combine prescription eyewear with open-ear hearing assistance: the company’s SpeechSense AI separates speech from background sound on the frame and amplifies it for the wearer. Legato says the glasses also support Bluetooth calls and music, run for more than 10 hours, and do not include cameras or record audio.
What Legato Frames are—and who they’re for
Legato Frames are conventional-looking glasses with hearing assistance built into the frame, aimed at adults with up to moderate hearing loss. Unlike in-ear hearing aids, the open-ear design leaves the ear canal unobstructed. Legato was founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine. Trivedi previously worked on Bose Frames and smart eyewear at EssilorLuxottica; Romine held hearing-aid leadership roles at Bose and operations roles at Audicus, according to TechCrunch and Legato.
How SpeechSense handles speech in noisy places
Legato says microphones on the frames capture the surrounding acoustic scene, then an on-device neural network separates speech from non-speech sounds in real time. SpeechSense amplifies the isolated speech for the wearer’s hearing loss. Because the processing runs on the frame, the company says the system does not need to send the sound to a cloud service.
This design is intended to make conversation easier to follow when other sounds compete with speech, such as at a restaurant. But the available performance information does not establish how well the glasses work in every noisy setting or for every degree and type of hearing loss. Legato reports a 4.6/5 HearAdvisor SoundScore and says testing in May 2026 placed Frames among the lab’s top 10 tested devices, including over-the-counter and prescription hearing aids. Those are company-published testing claims; the published materials cited here do not provide the full test protocol or a peer-reviewed clinical outcome study.
