Kyndryl CFO Succession: What Changed in 2026

Kyndryl’s finance leadership changed in two stages in 2026: David Wyshner left as CFO on February 5, when Harsh Chugh became interim CFO; in July, the company named Ellen Johnson as his permanent successor. A separate review of cash management and financial controls was reported at the same time as the February changes, but Kyndryl’s appointment filing does not say that the review caused any departure.

What “rapid unscheduled disassembly” means in Kyndryl’s case

The phrase is a rhetorical description, not the name of an event used in Kyndryl’s filings. The documented events are a series of executive appointments and departures in February, followed by the appointment of a permanent CFO in July.

Who replaced Kyndryl’s CFO?

Date Documented change
February 5, 2026 David Wyshner departed as CFO, and Harsh Chugh became interim CFO, effective immediately. Kyndryl’s Form 8-K filed February 9, 2026 records the change.
July 6, 2026 Kyndryl announced Ellen Johnson as incoming CFO. The company said she would join July 20 and take over the CFO role August 6. Chugh was to remain interim CFO through August 5 and assist with the transition, according to the July 6 SEC-filed announcement.
Checked October 4, 2026 Kyndryl’s current leadership page lists Johnson as CFO.

Johnson previously served as executive vice president and CFO of Interpublic Group from 2020 to 2025, according to Kyndryl’s leadership page. Chugh had been Kyndryl’s COO from September 2021 through January 2026; in January, he was named Global Head of Practices, Corporate Development, and Administration before taking the interim CFO role.

What else changed in February?

The February changes extended beyond the CFO office:

  • Bhavna Doegar was appointed interim corporate controller, effective February 5.
  • Vineet Khurana stepped down as senior vice president and global controller and took a different role.
  • Edward Sebold departed as general counsel.

Kyndryl’s 2026 proxy statement also records the officer transitions and says Wyshner and Sebold entered separation agreements. Those are disclosed separation terms; they do not establish why either executive departed. The 2026 proxy statement summarizes the agreements.

Why did Kyndryl’s CFO leave?

Kyndryl’s February appointment filing does not give a reason for Wyshner’s departure. It is therefore not established by that filing whether he left voluntarily, whether the company requested his departure, or whether another event prompted it.

A separate issue was reported in February. CIO’s February 11, 2026 account described a company filing that disclosed a review of cash-management practices, related disclosures—including drivers of adjusted free cash flow—and internal controls over financial reporting. CIO reported that Kyndryl anticipated material weaknesses and expected no impact on its consolidated financial statements. That controls review is relevant context, but the appointment filing does not connect it to Wyshner’s or Sebold’s departure.

CIO also reported management commentary about business performance: Kyndryl expected a 2%–3% constant-currency revenue decline for FY2026; CEO Martin Schroeter said IBM-related commercial arrangements weighed on growth; and he cited 29% growth in consulting and 73% growth in hyperscaler-related revenue for the reported quarter. These are figures and remarks attributed to CIO’s account, not explanations for the personnel changes.
