KOHO Cover may cost less than a payday loan for someone who qualifies and needs a small, short-term advance—but “no interest” does not mean access is free. You need an active paid Cover Bundle, your available amount depends on eligibility, and you still have to repay what you borrow. Compare the bundle charge and repayment timing with the full cost of other options before taking an advance.
What KOHO Cover is—and what “no interest” means
KOHO describes Cover as an open credit facility accessed through a KOHO account. Its terms require an active, non-joint account, an active Cover Bundle subscription and completed identity verification (KYC). Your available credit limit appears in the app, so use that personal amount rather than assuming you will qualify for a published maximum.
KOHO’s terms say the Cover Advance has no fees and no interest. That describes the advance itself; it does not remove the paid subscription required for access. KOHO’s consumer page has described Cover as offering up to $250 depending on eligibility, but published maximums have varied across KOHO pages. Treat any advertised ceiling as indicative, not guaranteed, and check both your current limit and bundle price in the app.
KOHO says repayment happens automatically when you add money or receive pay. Before drawing, check the applicable in-app terms and consider how that repayment will affect the balance available for rent, bills and other expenses. KOHO also says a member who fails to repay becomes ineligible for future KOHO lines of credit.

How to compare Cover with a payday loan
Compare the total dollars you will pay to access the money, not just the interest rate on the advance. Include the Cover Bundle charge for the relevant period, the amount you need, when repayment is triggered and the cash left for ordinary expenses afterward. The bundle’s price and the terms shown to a particular member may change, so verify them before borrowing.
For context, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) says a payday loan may be as large as $1,500, with a repayment period of up to 62 days. Rules differ by province and territory. In provinces with payday-loan regimes, the FCAC says the maximum borrowing cost is $14 per $100 borrowed; check local rules and confirm the lender is licensed where you live.

FCAC’s illustrative cost comparison
The FCAC compares the cost of borrowing $300 for 14 days under specified assumptions. These are example prices, not market averages or personalized offers.
| Borrowing option | Example cost for $300 over 14 days | Assumption used by FCAC |
|---|---|---|
| Payday loan | $42 | $14 per $100 borrowed |
| Line of credit | $5.92 | $5 administration fee plus 8% annual interest |
| Chequing-account overdraft protection | $7.42 | $5 fee plus 21% annual interest |
| Credit-card cash advance | $7.65 | $5 fee plus 23% annual interest |
These figures do not establish what you personally would pay for Cover: the comparison does not include an individual KOHO bundle price. Calculate your own total cost over the time you expect to use the advance, including any fee attached to your chosen alternative.

Alternatives to consider before borrowing
The FCAC suggests checking whether you can manage the expense without a payday loan. Options vary in availability and cost, so compare their terms and whether repayment fits your budget.
- Ask the biller for more time to pay or a payment deferral.
- Ask your employer whether a pay advance is available.
- Consider help from family or friends, taking account of the effect on that relationship.
- Ask a financial institution about a loan or line of credit.
- Compare a credit-card cash advance or overdraft protection, including fees and interest.
For any option, check the amount available, how quickly funds arrive, the repayment date and collection method, eligibility requirements and the consequences of missing a payment. Do not borrow if the repayment would leave you unable to meet essential expenses or likely to require another advance.

KOHO’s separate Fora line of credit
KOHO also lists a personal line of credit provided by Fora Credit, Inc. It is a different product from Cover: it is interest-bearing, with a stated limit range of $1,000 to $15,000 and actual annual rates of 19.9% to 34.9%, depending on eligibility, underwriting and creditworthiness. KOHO says interest is charged only on the amount used and approved applicants may receive funds the same business day, though approval and bank processing affect timing.
The product page lists availability for KOHO members in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. KOHO says Fora is responsible for underwriting, approval, funding and servicing. A KOHO help page updated April 25, 2026 says the line was available only to select members; it also says interest accrues daily on outstanding principal and minimum-payment timing and frequency depend on income frequency. Check the current terms in the app and the Fora application before applying.

How to decide whether Cover fits your situation
Cover may be worth considering when you need a small amount, qualify for an advance and can repay it without disrupting essential expenses. It is not automatically the cheapest choice just because the advance has no interest: the required bundle has a price, and local alternatives may have lower total costs. Compare the amount you need, all charges, repayment timing and your ability to repay on time before deciding.
KOHO’s product and legal pages explain KOHO’s own terms; they are not independent evaluations. The FCAC’s guidance and example provide a separate consumer reference, but the example is not a quote for your circumstances.
