Critics connected the plea to his earlier advocacy for tax cuts. Futurism later reported that the home burned and that Wasserman sought replacement housing.
What did Wasserman ask for?
A reproduced Futurism report said Wasserman posted a request asking whether anyone had “access to private firefighters to protect our home in Pacific Palisades.” A Futurism listing preview gives a shorter version ending, “Will pay any amount.” These are words reproduced by reporting; the original post was not independently authenticated in the available coverage. Futurism’s report, reproduced in a university-hosted archive.
Why did the request draw criticism?
Futurism reported that critics pointed to Wasserman’s earlier tax-cut advocacy and treated the request for privately funded protection as inconsistent with that position. That is the critics’ framing of the episode, not evidence that his tax views affected emergency response or the outcome at his property. The available reporting does not establish how broadly the criticism was shared.
The Cybertruck reference in the headline is not central to the reported firefighter request or the subsequent updates; the available account does not establish a role for the vehicle in either.

What happened to the home afterward?
In a January 14, 2025 follow-up, Futurism reported that the Pacific Palisades home burned. The article attributed that account to online records examined by the New York Post; the records were not independently checked in the available coverage. Futurism’s follow-up.
The follow-up also quoted a Facebook post in which Wasserman wrote: “I feel like I lost a part of my soul losing our home that [my wife] spent so much time meticulously creating for our family.” He added, “I miss the Palisades so much. Feels surreal to be homeless after living in so much abundance and beauty.”

Where did he look for housing?
Futurism quoted a subsequent request for a rental with at least four bedrooms in Santa Monica, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, or Cheviot Hills. Wasserman described the search as “a feeding frenzy to try to find alternative housing.” The update establishes what he asked for, not whether he found a home in any of those neighborhoods. Read the follow-up and quoted housing request.

The documented sequence is a reported request for private firefighters, public criticism tied to perceived inconsistency with tax-cut advocacy, and later reporting that the home burned and Wasserman sought new housing. It illustrates how a personal appeal can become a debate about taxes and private services. It does not establish that private firefighters were available, that the request changed the fire response, or that any tax policy caused the loss.
