K-tip extensions are applied strand by strand by fusing a keratin tip to small sections of natural hair with heat. Their cost depends heavily on the amount and length of hair, the salon, and what the quote includes: posted examples range from CAD $250 for a partial head at one Ontario salon to $2,800 starting price with hair included at another salon. There is no universal wear or maintenance schedule, so plan costs and follow-up with the stylist who will install them.
What K-tip extensions are and how they are applied
Each extension strand ends in a keratin bond. A stylist sections the natural hair, places a bond against a small section, and softens it with heat so it fuses in place. The strand-by-strand method allows placement without a visible weft, but it is a salon service: the exact technique, heat, placement, and timing depend on the stylist and product.
Do not assume a universal appointment length. Remy Hair Industries lists 30–90 minutes for its product information, while House of Frizz lists six and a half hours for a full-head service. These are different providers and service descriptions, not directly comparable estimates for every appointment. Ask the salon how long your planned installation will take and whether consultation, blending, or color work is included. Remy Hair Industries; House of Frizz
How much do K-tip extensions cost?
Published salon prices illustrate how much scope and location can change the bill; they are examples, not a market average. House of Frizz in Ontario, Canada, lists CAD $250 for a partial head, CAD $500 for a half head, and CAD $1,000 for a full head. Its page says prices have been converted to Canadian dollars and include import fees and shipping, but tax still applies. FTG Salon lists K-tip installation starting at $2,800 with hair included and says longer lengths may cost more; the cited page does not identify that price as Canadian, so confirm currency and current terms directly with the salon. Before committing, request a written, itemized quote. Compare:
- How much hair is included, its length, and whether the quote includes the hair itself.
- Installation labor and any consultation, cutting, blending, or color services.
- Expected appointment duration and any additional charges.
- When the stylist expects to check the bonds, and whether that visit costs extra.
- Removal charges and the salon’s policy on reuse or replacement of removed hair.
Ask whether the quoted amount is a starting price, whether tax is extra, and what could change the estimate. The two salon menus above do not establish what a typical client pays or what every salon includes.

How long K-tips last and when to follow up
Published guidance varies: FTG Salon describes an install lasting about five months with proper care and recommends professional removal after about five to six months; House of Frizz plans an initial check around 10–12 weeks; a stylist guide gives a broad three-to-six-month wear range. These are provider-specific schedules, not a guaranteed lifespan or a standardized monthly move-up routine. FTG Salon; House of Frizz; Kelly Maxwell Hair Extensions
Have the installing stylist set a check-in and removal plan based on your hair, the bonds, and how the extensions are wearing. Contact the salon if a bond slips, tangles, or becomes uncomfortable rather than waiting for a general time range to run out.

Maintenance and aftercare
Maintenance instructions are not identical across providers, and the sources do not establish one required monthly service for all K-tip installations. Ask your stylist for product-specific care instructions before you leave, including how to brush and wash your hair, how to handle the bonds, and what symptoms or bond changes warrant an appointment. Follow that plan rather than relying on generic advice intended for a different extension method.
Removal: arrange it with your stylist
Plan a professional take-down with the stylist or salon that knows the installation. FTG Salon describes using a remover to dissolve the keratin bonds so the strands slide away, and says hair removed from its installation cannot be reused for a new K-tip set. That is the salon’s stated approach and reuse policy, not a rule established for every brand or salon. Ask your provider whether removal is charged separately and whether any hair can be reused in your specific case. FTG Salon K-Tip install

K-tips are not damage-free, and no source establishes that they are suitable for every hair or scalp. The American Academy of Dermatology’s general guidance on weaves and extensions warns: “Tight hairstyles can cause traction alopecia, which is a form of hair loss caused by repeated pulling on the hair, and it can be permanent.” This guidance concerns extensions broadly, not a K-tip-specific clinical trial. Before installation, discuss scalp and hair condition, strand weight, placement, and tension with a qualified stylist. Do not ignore pain, irritation, breakage, or hair loss; contact the stylist about the installation and seek dermatology care for hair loss or concerning scalp symptoms.
