Jay Clayton, the former SEC chair who led the agency when it sued Ripple over XRP, was reportedly expected to receive a White House AI role—but the appointment had not been confirmed in the October 2, 2026 reporting. Axios said an announcement could come soon, while a White House official said any personnel decision would be announced by President Donald Trump and called earlier reporting “baseless speculation.”
Has Jay Clayton been appointed to a White House AI role?
Not in the cited October 2, 2026 report. Axios reported that Trump was expected to tap Clayton, who was then Director of National Intelligence, for a White House “AI” or “super intelligence” czar role. But Axios also quoted a White House official saying: “Any personnel announcement will be announced directly by the President. Any reporting until then is baseless speculation.” The distinction matters: Axios described an anticipated appointment, not a confirmed one.
The White House had not announced the appointment in the evidence available here. The report also does not establish a formal job description or the role’s authority.
Why is Clayton linked to the XRP lawsuit?
Clayton chaired the Securities and Exchange Commission when it filed its 2020 enforcement action against Ripple over XRP. That timing is the connection behind descriptions of him as the man behind the XRP lawsuit. It does not, by itself, establish that a prospective White House technology role would involve cryptocurrency or securities enforcement.

What is the White House’s “super intelligence” terminology?
A September 29, 2026 White House fact sheet says Trump signed an executive order directing executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in specified executive-branch communications. It assigns the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology responsibilities related to defining and implementing the terminology. This is documented executive-branch policy; it is separate from the reported possibility of a Clayton appointment.
Would the role change XRP’s legal or regulatory status?
No such effect is established by the cited reporting. It does not say that the possible role would direct the SEC, change the Ripple case, or set policy for XRP. Clayton’s former SEC position explains why XRP readers are watching the story, but it is not evidence of authority over the agency or its enforcement actions in a prospective White House post.

What has Clayton said about AI?
At his DNI confirmation hearing, Clayton described AI as “not only an opportunity but a threat.” Axios quoted him saying: “When something is both an opportunity and a threat, you better get your arms around it.” Those remarks show his stated view of AI; they do not confirm an appointment or define the duties of any future role.
