He left Amazon in 2023, returned in 2025, and was described by Fortune in February 2026 as overseeing Ring. The headline that he “is leaving Amazon” appears to refer to the earlier exit, not a confirmed new departure.
What happened to Jamie Siminoff at Amazon?
Siminoff’s Amazon career has included an exit and a return. The Verge reported on May 15, 2023, that he was leaving Amazon to pursue a new opportunity, after an earlier plan to move into a chief inventor role. Amazon announced his return in an April 4, 2025 interview. By February 2026, Fortune described him as back at Ring and overseeing the business.
The sources available do not establish a further departure in 2026. The clearest current reading is therefore that the “leaving Amazon” claim describes his 2023 exit, not a newly announced event.
Why did he leave, and why did he return?
The 2023 departure
The Verge’s 2023 report said Siminoff was leaving to pursue a new opportunity. The report also noted that he had previously said he would shift to a chief inventor role. The available account does not establish further details about the opportunity or give a more specific reason for his departure.

The 2025 return
Amazon’s April 2025 interview introduced Siminoff as having recently returned. He said he was excited to invent with teams from Ring, Blink, Amazon Key, and Sidewalk. His emphasis was on product invention: “Invention is my true passion—I love looking at what we can invent for our neighbors, which is what I’ve always called our customers.”
Jabil’s October 16, 2025 announcement provides additional confirmation of his Amazon role. It said Siminoff would not seek reelection to Jabil’s board at its January 2026 annual meeting, linking the change to his return to a full-time Amazon position as Ring’s vice president of product. That was a departure from a board seat, not an announcement that he was leaving Amazon.

How Ring became part of Amazon
Siminoff started the company in his garage in 2011. Its original video doorbell was called Doorbot, and Fortune reports that he pitched it on Shark Tank in 2013 without receiving an investment. The company later became Ring.
Amazon and Ring announced that their acquisition had closed on April 12, 2018. In that announcement, Siminoff said Ring’s mission was to reduce crime in neighborhoods and that the companies aimed to make security devices and systems more affordable and accessible. Fortune described the sale as worth about $1 billion; Amazon and Ring’s closing announcement did not state a price.

What is known—and not known—about a new departure
Fortune’s February 2026 coverage discussed Siminoff’s leadership at Ring and the company’s direction, but it did not announce that he was leaving Amazon. A May 5, 2026 podcast listing includes discussion of leaving Amazon, building Door.com, returning to Ring, privacy, and his book Ding Dong; that listing is not an announcement of another departure.
So far, the documented sequence is a 2023 exit followed by a 2025 return. A later announcement would be needed to establish that Siminoff has left Amazon again.
