It may be—but the refreshed IHG One Rewards Premier card is worth keeping only if the benefits you will actually use justify its $150 annual fee. Start with the anniversary free night and qualifying credits, then consider status and the fourth-night award benefit only where they fit your travel. The October 1, 2026 announcement describes the refreshed Premier; it does not establish when the new fee or benefits take effect for every existing account. Confirm your renewal terms with Chase before deciding.
What changed on the IHG Premier card?
Chase announced the Premier refresh on October 1, 2026. Its announcement lists a $150 annual fee, a higher-cap anniversary free night, food-and-beverage rewards, an airline statement credit, and updated status benefits. These are issuer-announced terms, not a guarantee that every existing cardholder has already received the changes. Read Chase’s refresh announcement and check the terms attached to your account.
| Premier feature | What Chase announced | What determines your value |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | $150 | The fee and effective date on your account and renewal. |
| Anniversary night | Certificate capped at 50,000 IHG points, with the option to add IHG points. | Whether a room is available at a property and date you would choose, and the certificate’s terms and validity period. |
| Food-and-beverage rewards | $100 annually, according to the announcement. | Eligible purchases, any enrollment or redemption rules, and whether you would spend on those purchases anyway. |
| Airline statement credit | $100; Chase’s product-page details state the credit is time-limited through December 31, 2027. | Qualifying direct airline purchases, the stated purchase threshold, and the applicable account terms. |
| Status and elite-night credits | Automatic Gold Elite status and 15 Elite Night Credits per calendar year. | Whether status benefits improve your actual stays or the credits help you reach a useful milestone. |
| Additional elite-night credits | Chase’s refreshed product page lists 2 additional credits per $5,000 spent and 5 more after $15,000 in calendar-year spend. | Whether the spending thresholds fit your existing budget; do not spend extra just to earn credits. |
Chase’s refreshed Premier product page gives further terms. Check it alongside your account documents because benefit eligibility and timing matter as much as the headline amounts.

Use values tied to your likely use, not a generic points-to-cash estimate or the advertised total value of the package. Count a benefit only when you expect to use it under its terms.

- Confirm your fee and renewal date. Look at your Chase account and cardmember notices, then ask Chase when the refreshed fee applies to your account. Public announcement materials do not settle every cardholder’s fee-change date, retention offer, or product-change options.
- Estimate the anniversary night from a real trip. Check a property and date you would otherwise book. Consider availability, the room you can reserve, the certificate’s validity, and whether using points or paying cash would be a better alternative. The 50,000-point cap is not a cash value: a certificate that cannot cover a stay you want may be worth little to you.
- Count credits only for purchases you would make anyway. Review the food-and-beverage and airline-credit rules for eligible merchants, purchase thresholds, enrollment, timing, and expiry. A credit you do not use—or use only by changing your spending—is not worth its face amount to your decision.
- Assess status and elite-night credits against your travel. Gold Elite status and annual credits may matter if they improve stays you actually take or help you reach a milestone. Do not treat a status label as cash: hotel benefits can depend on availability and participation.
- Include the fourth Reward Night only if you book eligible awards. The benefit can reduce the points cost of a qualifying stay of at least four nights, but its practical value depends on your award bookings and the terms applying to your card.
- Compare the usable total with the fee. Add the realistic value of benefits you will use, then compare it with your account’s annual fee. Revisit the calculation each year, separating recurring benefits from time-limited credits or promotions.
When keeping the card is more likely to make sense
- You can use the anniversary certificate for a stay you genuinely want, at a date and property where it is available.
- You naturally make enough eligible purchases to use the credits without spending more or buying from a less suitable merchant.
- You stay at IHG hotels often enough for the status or elite-night credits to affect your experience or progress toward a milestone.
- You regularly book eligible four-night-or-longer award stays and the card’s version of the benefit applies to those bookings.
When cancelling or changing cards merits consideration
- Your realistic value from usable benefits falls short of the fee.
- You rarely stay with IHG, cannot use the anniversary certificate, or do not make qualifying purchases for the credits.
- You are counting benefits at their advertised face value even though you may not meet their eligibility or use them before they expire.
- You would need to spend more than you otherwise would to reach a threshold or unlock value.
Before closing the account or changing products, ask Chase about your account-specific alternatives and the effect of any change. The public announcement does not specify a universal retention offer or product-change path.
Do not confuse the Premier refresh with other IHG cards
The October announcement also introduced the Premier Select at a $350 annual fee. It is a higher-fee, different-tier option—not the default choice for an existing Premier holder. Compare it only if you are actively considering paying more for its package; use Chase’s Premier Select page to review its terms.

Terms on the no-annual-fee Chase IHG card are separate. Chase says that card’s fourth-night benefit will require $5,000 in calendar-year spend starting in 2027, and its Gold status has a spend threshold starting in 2027. Those conditions should not be assumed to apply to Premier. See the no-fee card page for that card’s terms.

At the time the information was checked on October 3, 2026, IHG’s U.S. overview page still showed legacy Premier terms: a $99 annual fee and a 40,000-point certificate cap. Chase’s October 1 announcement and refreshed Premier page describe the new terms, so the older IHG overview should not be treated as confirmation of the refreshed Premier fee. For your own renewal, rely on account notices and Chase’s applicable terms.
