Maybe—but do not count the DoorDash benefit at its full advertised value. Chase’s expanded offer provides DashPass and up to $35 in monthly DoorDash promos from October 1, 2026 through the end of 2029. If you rarely place eligible orders, the promos may be worth little or nothing to you. Judge the card by the annual fee minus credits and other benefits you will realistically use, then compare that result with the $95-a-year Sapphire Preferred.
What the DoorDash benefit is worth to a rare user
Chase announced that, from October 1, 2026 through December 31, 2029, Sapphire Reserve cardmembers receive complimentary DashPass and up to $35 per month in DoorDash promos: one $15 promo for a qualifying DoorDash order and two $10 promos for groceries, daily essentials, and more. Chase described the offer as: “From Oct. 1, 2026, through the end of 2029, Reserve cardmembers get a complimentary DashPass membership (a $120 annual value), plus up to $35 each month to spend on DoorDash, including:” (Chase’s tenth-anniversary announcement).
That is a monthly maximum, not a guaranteed $35 cash benefit. Count a promo only if you would make an eligible purchase anyway and can use it under the terms. If you do not order often, leave unused promos out of your personal calculation. The announcement describes monthly promos; the sources reviewed do not establish that unused value rolls over, so do not assume it does. DashPass savings also depend on eligible orders and applicable terms.
Chase’s Reserve product page still describes an earlier DoorDash offer: a $5 monthly restaurant promo and two $10 promos, with the listed offer through December 31, 2027. Because Chase separately announced the expanded offer effective October 1, 2026, verify the current benefit and activation requirements in your account before relying on either page. Earlier detailed terms require activation, adding the card as the default payment method, and using it for eligible checkout benefits; the new offer’s account-specific terms may govern its mechanics. #1 Best Overall
Start with the fee and the travel credit
The Sapphire Reserve has a $795 annual fee, and each authorized user costs $195. Chase also provides up to $300 a year in statement credits for qualifying travel purchases. The credit renews on the account anniversary date, applies automatically to qualifying purchases, and can accumulate across purchases. Its practical value is the amount of your ordinary travel spending that qualifies—not automatically the full $300. Check Chase’s eligible categories and exclusions against the purchases you expect to make. (Chase Sapphire Reserve; Reserve benefits.)
A useful first-pass calculation is:
$795 annual fee − travel credits you expect to receive − realistic value of other benefits you will use = your estimated net annual cost.

This is a personal valuation, not a claim that every credit is equivalent to cash. Avoid counting spending you would not otherwise do, assigning value to unused services, or counting the same purchase or benefit twice.
Count other Reserve benefits only when they fit your habits
DoorDash is only one part of the card’s value. Chase lists travel, dining, and time-limited lifestyle benefits, but advertised maximums depend on qualifying use, activation, and terms. Examples on its benefits page include:

- 8x points on Chase Travel purchases and 4x points on direct airline and hotel bookings.
- Up to $300 annually for dining at participating Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables restaurants.
- Apple TV and Apple Music subscription benefits through June 22, 2027.
- Monthly Lyft credits through September 30, 2027.
- Peloton membership credits through December 31, 2027.
These benefits have conditions and, in several cases, end dates. Value them according to spending and services you already expect to use, not their maximum advertised amounts. Chase’s benefits page has the current terms and eligibility details (Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits).
Compare it with Sapphire Preferred
Chase lists the Sapphire Preferred at a $95 annual fee, versus $795 for the Reserve. The Preferred is a relevant lower-fee alternative if you do not get enough value from Reserve-specific travel and premium benefits. Its benefits differ, so compare the current earn rates, protections, and credits rather than assuming it is identical for less. Chase has also announced a Preferred DashPass offer; check its terms alongside the Reserve offer before deciding. (Chase Sapphire Preferred; Chase Sapphire cards; Chase announcement.)

| Decision factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Annual cost | Each card’s fee after credits you will actually redeem. |
| DoorDash use | How often you make eligible orders and the promos you can realistically use. |
| Travel | Your qualifying travel purchases and the value you place on travel rewards and protections. |
| Dining and lifestyle | Whether you already use participating restaurants and eligible services. |
| Points and protections | How each card’s current rewards and protections fit your spending and travel patterns. |
Do not decide by adding together every advertised maximum. Compare what each card would actually return to you after its fee.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the Reserve may—and may not—make sense
The Reserve may fit if
- Your qualifying travel spending makes substantial use of the $300 travel credit.
- You regularly use other Reserve benefits, such as eligible travel rewards or dining and lifestyle credits.
- Your realistic value from those benefits is enough to justify the remaining fee, even without assigning much value to DoorDash.
Look closely at the Preferred if
- You rarely use DoorDash and would not naturally use the other Reserve credits.
- You do not have enough qualifying travel purchases to make meaningful use of the travel credit.
- The Preferred’s lower fee better matches the rewards and protections you will actually use.
There is no independent statistic in the cited sources showing how much rare DoorDash users typically redeem. Your own expected use is the relevant measure.
