Is Sears still in business?
Yes. Sears remains a retail brand and operation under Transformco, though it no longer has the broad national department-store presence many shoppers remember. Sears says it primarily markets products through Sears.com and has a few stores in different locations. Transformco’s brand portfolio also includes Sears Home Services, Kenmore and DieHard, among other brands; those business lines do not mean every Sears location carries or provides every product or service.
Transform SR Brands LLC, doing business as TransformCo, says it acquired Sears’ assets and is now privately held. Sears’ terms of use, effective June 1, 2025, identify Transform SR Holding Management LLC as the operator of the Sears website and mobile app on behalf of Transformco and its affiliates.

Why Sears is still around despite its much smaller footprint
“Still in business” can mean more than keeping a large department-store network open. Sears continues to sell through its website, while the wider Transformco portfolio includes retail brands and services associated with home appliances, tools, lawn and garden, fitness equipment, automotive repair and maintenance, and home services. Sears’ remaining physical stores are a small part of that picture.
The scale of the contraction is clear in Transformco’s November 2019 announcement. The company said it had decided to close 96 Sears and Kmart stores and expected 182 combined stores to operate after those closures. That was a historical figure for both chains together; it is not a current Sears store count.
