That does not mean every Amazon order or shipping method stops: the delivery date shown for your specific item and address at checkout is the best guide, and tracking is the best way to follow an order after it ships.
Which Amazon delivery services operate on New Year’s Day?
Amazon’s U.S. help page says Prime Same-Day Delivery is not available on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day. That restriction applies to Same-Day; it is not a blanket announcement that all Amazon deliveries stop. Amazon’s general guidance says delivery options depend on the address and the order’s eligibility, and availability can change with inventory or capacity. Prime membership alone does not guarantee a January 1 arrival. Amazon says standard shipping methods apply to business days unless weekend delivery is shown; the date on the particular order is more useful than a general delivery-speed label. Amazon Prime Delivery Benefits
How to check whether your order will arrive January 1
- Set the delivery address. Delivery choices and estimates can depend on the destination.
- Check the item and checkout pages. Look at both the estimated date and the named service. Do not assume “Same-Day,” “Prime,” or another general speed label means New Year’s Day delivery.
- Use the estimate for that exact order. Amazon says estimates account for handling time, transit time, holidays, weekends, and a buffer. Availability may shift as inventory or delivery capacity changes. Amazon Prime Delivery Benefits; Amazon Seller Central: Manage your delivery time
- After ordering, check Your Orders. Open the order for its tracking number and latest delivery updates. If it is sold by a third-party seller, tracking may depend on whether the seller provides tracking information and whether the chosen service is trackable. Amazon: Tracking your package
Why a carrier’s holiday schedule is not a rule for every Amazon package
Carriers can have their own holiday schedules, but one carrier’s notice does not establish what will happen to every Amazon parcel. The U.S. Postal Service’s operations letter for January 1, 2026 said there would be no regular delivery service that day except Holiday Premium Priority Mail Express. It also described Amazon Night Owls activity around the holiday: no drops for Thursday holiday delivery, with drops Thursday night into Friday for Friday delivery. Holiday schedules are specific to year, location, carrier, and service. For a particular parcel, rely on the delivery estimate and order tracker rather than extending one carrier’s holiday notice to Amazon’s entire delivery network.
