IronNet did announce that it had ceased all activities and terminated its remaining employees on September 29, 2023, citing a lack of additional liquidity. But that was not the end of the story: the company filed for Chapter 11, resumed operations during the bankruptcy case, and announced in February 2024 that it had emerged as a private company. The shutdown was a real interruption, not a permanent liquidation.

Did IronNet shut down?

Yes. In a September 29, 2023 SEC filing, IronNet said it had ceased all company and subsidiary activities and terminated its remaining employees because additional liquidity was unavailable. The filing also said the company could not meet debts and related obligations. IronNet’s SEC filing states the company’s formal position at that time; it does not by itself establish every cause of its financial distress.

IronNet said then that it did not expect to pursue Chapter 11 and might instead need Chapter 7. That was its expectation in September, not what ultimately happened.

What happened to IronNet after the shutdown announcement?

Date Event What it means
September 29, 2023 IronNet announced a cessation of activities and termination of remaining employees. A shutdown announcement amid a liquidity shortfall, not yet a bankruptcy-court outcome.
October 12, 2023 IronNet, Inc. and subsidiary IronNet Cybersecurity, Inc. filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The company pursued reorganization rather than the Chapter 7 liquidation it had initially said might be necessary.
January 18, 2024 The bankruptcy court confirmed IronNet’s joint Chapter 11 plan. The plan provided for cancellation of existing equity securities and new common equity for holders of certain claims, among other provisions.
February 22, 2024 IronNet announced that it had completed its restructuring and emerged from Chapter 11 as a private company. The company described an emergence from bankruptcy, not a continuing shutdown.

The filing timeline and operational details appear in IronNet’s October 2023 SEC filing. The confirmation date is in the company’s January 2024 filing. IronNet’s account of its emergence is in its February 2024 announcement; claims in that announcement about the company’s position and offerings are the company’s own.

Did IronNet go bankrupt?

IronNet filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 12, 2023, and the court later confirmed its reorganization plan. Chapter 11 allows a business to restructure under court supervision; it is distinct from Chapter 7, which generally involves liquidation. In September, IronNet had said Chapter 7 might be necessary, but it instead completed a Chapter 11 process.

Under the plan described in the company’s January filing, existing equity securities were to be canceled, while new common equity would be issued to holders of certain claims. That distinction matters to shareholders: a company’s emergence from bankruptcy does not mean its old shares or investors’ interests remain intact.

Why did IronNet stop operating in September 2023?

IronNet’s formal explanation was that it lacked additional liquidity and could not satisfy debts and related obligations. Its bankruptcy disclosures describe efforts to obtain financing, continue customer service, and preserve intellectual property. These are company disclosures about the financial circumstances and bankruptcy process, not a complete independent account of all factors behind the distress.

What happened to IronNet’s customers?

IronNet’s October bankruptcy filing said AWS had terminated cloud services after the September cessation. On October 13, 2023, the bankruptcy court entered an interim order allowing an agreement to reinstate services. The filing described advance-payment requirements and AWS’s ability to suspend service if payment was not made.

This was a historical arrangement during the bankruptcy case. It does not establish whether a particular customer’s service is available now, or what support, contract terms, or migration options any customer currently has. Customers needing a current answer should confirm service and continuity directly with IronNet or their contractual provider.

Is IronNet still in business?

The latest status event established by the cited company record here is IronNet’s February 22, 2024 announcement that it had emerged from Chapter 11 as a private company. That supports saying it restructured and emerged from bankruptcy; it does not independently verify its ownership, product availability, customer operations, or financial condition as of September 30, 2026.
