However, the best low-risk deal was Apple Certified Refurbished at $529 for 128GB, while a restored 256GB listing at $443.86 offered the strongest storage value—provided its seller, warranty, battery terms and return policy are acceptable.
Prices and availability were checked August 16, 2026, and can change. The Walmart prices are marketplace offers, not Apple Certified Refurbished products, so the headline discount should not be treated as the best purchase automatically.

These rankings use total value—not just the largest percentage shown beside a listing.
The biggest iPhone 15 discount found
Walmart’s cell-phone deals page showed restored, unlocked iPhone 15 options from $382.41, with a displayed reference price of $795. That is a nominal saving of up to $412.59, or about 52%.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.1inch Super Retina XDR display. Aluminum with color-infused glass back. Ring/Silent switch
- Dynamic Island. A magical way to interact with iPhone. A16 Bionic chip with 5-core GPU
- Advanced dual-camera system. 48MP Main | Ultra Wide. Super-high-resolution photos (24MP and 48MP). Next-generation portraits with Focus and Depth Control. 4X optical zoom range
- Emergency SOS via satellite. Crash Detection. Roadside Assistance via satellite
- Up to 26 hours video playback. USB C, Supports USB 2. Face ID
But “starting at” is not enough information to call this the best deal. The page included multiple capacities, sellers and price options. Before paying, select the exact storage and color, then confirm:
- That the specific phone is unlocked—not merely compatible with certain carriers.
- Whether Walmart or a third-party marketplace seller is fulfilling the order.
- What “Restored” means for that listing and condition grade.
- Whether a minimum battery-health level is guaranteed.
- Who provides the warranty and how long it lasts.
- The return window, shipping cost, taxes and any protection-plan charges.
- That the purchase does not require activation, financing or a qualifying carrier plan.
The displayed “was” price is also a reference point, not proof that the exact phone recently sold for $795. Treat the $382.41 figure as the lowest advertised price found in this check, not a guaranteed all-market record.
Best trustworthy unlocked deal: Apple Certified Refurbished
Apple’s Certified Refurbished iPhone 15 collection is the clearest benchmark for buyers who want an unlocked phone with stronger after-sale protection:
| Model | Observed price | Former price | Nominal saving | Risk level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15, 128GB | $529 | $629 | $100 | Low |
| iPhone 15, 256GB | $619 | $729 | $110 | Low |
| iPhone 15 Plus, 128GB | $619 | $729 | $110 | Low |
| iPhone 15 Plus, 256GB | $699 | $829 | $130 | Low |
| iPhone 15 Plus, 512GB | $869 | $1,029 | $160 | Low |
Apple says its Certified Refurbished iPhones receive a new battery and outer shell, include accessories and documentation, and come with the same one-year limited warranty as a new iPhone. Apple also states that refurbished products qualify for a 14-day return policy, and the product pages indicate AppleCare eligibility may be available. Supplies, colors and capacities can be limited.

Best 256GB iPhone 15 deal
Two Walmart marketplace listings offered unusually strong storage value:
| Listing | Capacity | Price | Displayed former price | Nominal saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walmart restored listing | 256GB | $443.86 | $619 | $175.14 |
| Walmart alternative listing | 256GB | $449 | $589.99 | $140.99 |
At $443.86, the 256GB model costs less than Apple’s 128GB Certified Refurbished model and provides twice the nominal storage. That makes it the better capacity deal on paper. It is not automatically the better financial decision: marketplace refurbishments can have different battery standards, parts histories, warranties and return procedures.
For comparison, Apple’s 256GB model costs $619. The additional $175.14 to buy from Apple is effectively the price of Apple’s refurbishment standards, new battery and outer shell, warranty and return process. Whether that premium is worthwhile depends on how much risk you are willing to accept.

Other observed iPhone 15 offers
Best Buy’s iPhone 15 search results surfaced a refurbished excellent unlocked 128GB model at $451, showing a displayed saving of $58.99 from $509.99.
Best Buy may be a useful middle ground for shoppers who value a major retailer or possible local pickup. Still, check the exact product page. Inventory can include different condition categories or third-party sellers, and the displayed warranty and return terms—not the search-result label—control the purchase.
Is 256GB worth paying for?
Storage value is a secondary metric. The Apple Certified Refurbished prices work out to about $4.13 per nominal gigabyte for 128GB and $2.42 per nominal gigabyte for 256GB, but storage alone does not compensate for a weak warranty or uncertain battery.
Choose 128GB if you stream most media, use cloud storage and regularly remove large videos. Choose 256GB if you keep photos and videos locally, play large games, record frequently or expect to keep the phone for several years. If a trustworthy 256GB marketplace listing is only modestly more expensive than a 128GB offer, it can be the better long-term value. Do not trade away a reliable return policy merely to gain capacity.

What the iPhone 15 still offers
Apple introduced the iPhone 15 in September 2023. The standard model remains relevant for buyers who want:
- An A16 Bionic chip.
- A 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display.
- Dynamic Island.
- A dual-camera system, including an ultrawide camera.
- USB-C charging and connectivity.
- Up to 20 hours of video playback under Apple’s rating.
- MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W.
- IP68 water and dust resistance.
- 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options.
See Apple’s technical specifications for the model’s detailed capabilities.
What the iPhone 15 does not offer
Do not buy the standard iPhone 15 expecting full Apple Intelligence support. Apple’s iOS 26 feature-availability documentation identifies some features as available only on iPhone 16e and later, while other iOS 26 features work on iPhone 15 and later. Compatibility varies by feature, language and region, so check Apple’s current documentation if AI features are important to you.
The standard iPhone 15 also has a 60Hz display rather than the higher refresh rate found on Pro models and some competing phones. Refurbished stock may offer fewer colors, and marketplace listings may not provide the same battery or warranty assurances as Apple.

Could the refurbished iPhone 16e be a better buy?
At the observed price, yes—for some buyers. Apple listed a Certified Refurbished iPhone 16e 128GB at $419, reduced from $599. That is $110 less than Apple’s refurbished 128GB iPhone 15.
| Consideration | iPhone 15 | iPhone 16e |
|---|---|---|
| Observed Apple refurbished price | $529 for 128GB | $419 for 128GB |
| Chip | A16 Bionic | A18 |
| Apple Intelligence | Treat as unsupported unless current Apple documentation confirms otherwise | Apple lists support |
| Camera/design advantage | Dynamic Island and dual-camera system with ultrawide | Newer hardware and a two-in-one camera system |
| Best fit | Buyers who specifically want the iPhone 15 design and camera setup | Buyers prioritizing newer hardware and Apple Intelligence |
The 16e is not categorically better. The iPhone 15 may be worth choosing for Dynamic Island, the ultrawide camera or a lower marketplace price. But if you want Apple Intelligence and a newer chip, paying more for the older iPhone 15 is difficult to justify at these observed Apple prices.
How to avoid a bad refurbished iPhone
- Confirm the exact model and capacity. Marketplace pages often combine 128GB and 256GB options under one headline.
- Verify unlocked status. “Compatible with” a carrier is not the same as carrier-unlocked.
- Identify the seller. Record the seller name, rating and number of relevant reviews.
- Read the battery promise. Do not assume a marketplace phone has a new battery or a particular maximum-capacity percentage.
- Check warranty and returns. Apple’s one-year warranty applies to Apple Certified Refurbished products; do not extend it to third-party listings.
- Check activation and financing restrictions. Ask whether the IMEI is clean, the device is free of Activation Lock and the phone is not subject to an unpaid carrier balance.
- Inspect the phone immediately. After setup, review Parts and Service History, battery health, camera operation, charging, display, speakers and Face ID.
- Keep documentation. Save the listing, price, seller terms and order confirmation until the return period ends.
Why carrier “free iPhone” offers are different
A carrier promotion may produce a lower effective price than any cash deal, but it is not equivalent to buying an unlocked iPhone 15 outright. These offers commonly rely on an eligible unlimited plan, a new line or qualifying upgrade, a trade-in, credit approval and monthly bill credits over a defined period.
Canceling service or paying off a financed device early can end future credits. Taxes may also be charged on the full retail price. The available research did not establish a current, iPhone 15-specific August 2026 carrier promotion, so compare any live offer using its total required payments—not the advertised monthly credit. Apple’s carrier-offer documentation explains the general qualification and credit structure.
How to choose
- Choose Apple Certified Refurbished 128GB for $529 if you want the simplest, lower-risk unlocked purchase.
- Choose a Walmart 256GB listing at $443.86 to $449 only after the specific seller, battery terms, warranty and return policy pass inspection.
- Choose the Apple Certified Refurbished iPhone 16e at $419 if newer hardware and Apple Intelligence matter more than Dynamic Island and the iPhone 15’s ultrawide camera.
- Consider a carrier promotion only if you already need the qualifying plan and understand the full commitment.
