On April 23, 2025, CNA reported that Bloomberg News said Intel planned to announce cuts affecting more than 20% of its workforce, citing a person familiar with the matter. That was anonymous-source reporting—not an Intel-confirmed target or final layoff count. Intel later disclosed a separate restructuring target: an approximately 15% reduction in its core workforce by fiscal year-end 2025, measured against its headcount at the end of Q2 2025.
What Bloomberg reported about Intel layoffs
CNA’s April 23, 2025, article, relaying Reuters reporting, said Bloomberg News reported that Intel was set to announce cuts exceeding 20% of its workforce. The report cited a person familiar with the matter, and CNA noted that Intel had not immediately responded to Reuters’ request for comment. The percentage therefore describes what Bloomberg reported at the time; it should not be presented as a confirmed Intel announcement or as the final number of jobs eliminated. CNA’s report
What Intel later said about its 2025 restructuring
Intel’s later disclosures described a 2025 Restructuring Plan intended to lower costs, streamline management, and shift resources toward its core client and server businesses. Intel said it expected the plan to reduce its core workforce by approximately 15% by the end of fiscal 2025, using the employee headcount at the end of Q2 2025 as the comparison point. This is a different, company-disclosed target from the greater-than-20% figure attributed to Bloomberg. Intel’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 27, 2025
Intel described the initiative this way: “This initiative is intended to lower expenses, streamline our organizational structure and reduce management layers across functions while reallocating resources toward our core client and server businesses by reducing lower-priority programs and initiatives.”

What Intel’s later employee totals do—and do not—show
As of June 27, 2026, Intel reported 77.6 thousand Intel employees. Its broader total was 82.3 thousand when Mobileye and other subsidiaries were included. These are reported employee totals on that date, not a count of layoffs under the April 2025 Bloomberg report. Intel’s Q2 2026 filing
Period-to-period comparisons also require care: Intel said approximately 3.0 thousand Altera employees were excluded from its employee totals after Intel deconsolidated Altera following the sale of 51% of its common stock. A reported headcount shift can therefore reflect a change in which employees are included, not just hiring or job cuts.

How much of the restructuring was completed?
Intel’s Q2 2026 filing said: “The substantial majority of the actions contemplated by the 2025 Restructuring Plan were completed in 2025, with the remainder expected to be completed in 2026.” That update describes progress on Intel’s plan, but it does not establish a final position-elimination count corresponding to Bloomberg’s April 2025 report. Intel’s Q2 2026 filing
Intel’s September 27, 2025, filing put the 2025 Restructuring Plan’s cumulative expected cost at $1.9 billion. That is a plan cost, not a measure of the number of jobs cut. Intel’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 27, 2025

Timeline of the reports and disclosures
- April 23, 2025: CNA reported via Reuters that Bloomberg said Intel planned to announce cuts exceeding 20%, citing a person familiar with the matter.
- Q2 2025: Intel announced and began its restructuring plan, later stating an approximately 15% core-workforce reduction target against its Q2 ending headcount.
- September 27, 2025: Intel reported a cumulative expected plan cost of $1.9 billion.
- June 27, 2026: Intel reported 77.6 thousand Intel employees and 82.3 thousand employees including Mobileye and other subsidiaries.
- Q2 2026 filing: Intel said most planned actions were completed in 2025, with the remainder expected in 2026.
Can the final number of Intel job cuts be confirmed?
The cited filings provide Intel’s restructuring target, employee totals, and implementation status, but not a final count tied to the greater-than-20% figure in Bloomberg’s April 2025 report. Later employee totals cannot reliably be used to calculate that count: they can reflect restructuring actions, ordinary workforce changes, and the Altera reporting change.
