Infinix’s first 5G smartphone launched in India was the Infinix Zero 5G. The company initially targeted a launch by the end of January 2022 and a price below ₹20,000; the phone actually launched on February 14 at ₹19,999, with Flipkart sales starting February 18.
Which was Infinix’s first 5G phone in India?
It was the Infinix Zero 5G. In a December 2021 interview, Infinix India CEO Anish Kapoor discussed the company’s plan for its first Indian 5G phone without naming the model. The Zero 5G was identified later, as its February launch approached. This means “first” refers to Infinix’s first 5G smartphone launched in India, not necessarily its first 5G phone worldwide. India Today’s December 2021 interview and its February launch confirmation show how the plan became a named product.
What were the expected price and launch date?
In December 2021, Kapoor said Infinix aimed to price its first 5G phone below ₹20,000 and planned to launch it by the end of January 2022. Those were company targets, not a confirmed price or final date. He cited component costs, exchange-rate pressure and the global chip shortage as factors affecting phone prices. India Today reported the original plan.
The Zero 5G missed the January target. It launched in India on February 14, 2022, at ₹19,999 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its first Flipkart sale was scheduled for February 18. Gadgets 360’s launch report and India Today’s launch coverage distinguish the launch from the later sale date.

What specifications were reported before launch?
Pre-launch reports pointed to a Dimensity 900 processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, a 120Hz Full HD+ screen, a 48MP main camera, a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging. Reports differed on the screen’s size and technology, with some predicting an AMOLED or OLED panel. Those details were not all settled until launch and should not be mistaken for the final Indian retail specification. Early reports included Gizmochina and My Mobile India.
What were the Zero 5G’s final Indian specifications?
The final Indian model used an LCD LTPS panel, not AMOLED. The manufacturer’s product page and the Indian retail listing describe the following configuration:

What did ₹19,999 offer buyers?
At launch, the Zero 5G combined a Dimensity 900 processor with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, a large 120Hz display, a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging. That package made it a performance- and battery-focused option near the ₹20,000 threshold. Its 13 listed 5G bands were a forward-looking feature, but band support alone could not guarantee service on every carrier or in every location.

The trade-offs matter when judging the price. The screen was LCD rather than the AMOLED panel some leaks had suggested, and the 199g body was relatively substantial. The three rear cameras were a 48MP main, portrait and bokeh setup; the listed specifications do not describe a dedicated ultrawide or telephoto camera. The ₹19,999 price also sat only ₹1 below the company’s stated ceiling.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Did 5G mean buyers could use 5G immediately?
No. When Infinix announced its plan in December 2021, commercial 5G availability in India was still limited. For many buyers, 5G support was preparation for future network access rather than a promise of immediate nationwide coverage. Actual service depended on local network rollout, supported bands, carrier certification and provisioning, and a compatible SIM and plan. Infinix’s CEO acknowledged that 5G phones cost more even as the technology had not yet rolled out broadly in India, according to the original interview.

How should buyers read the old price today?
₹19,999 is the Zero 5G’s historical Indian launch price, not a guarantee of its current price or availability. The model dates to 2022, so an online listing should be checked for seller, condition, warranty and return terms before purchase. A low-cost or spare-phone buyer may still be interested in the original device; someone prioritising recent software, long-term security updates or current camera hardware should weigh its age carefully.
