It can show local job and candidate supply, competition, salary ranges and search behavior—useful context for setting pay or refining a posting. It is different from Indeed Analytics, which tracks activity on an employer’s own Indeed jobs. Neither tool guarantees applications, hiring quality or time to fill.
What Indeed Hiring Insights shows employers
Hiring Insights is Indeed’s on-demand market-report tool. An employer selects a country, job title or occupational category, and location to explore labor-market indicators for that role. Depending on the report and market, data may include job counts and trends, job seekers and job seekers per job, an employer competition score, candidate-device share, salary ranges, unemployment, popular search terms, employers receiving clicks, resume counts and updates, and education or experience reported on resumes. Indeed notes that not every metric appears in every report.

Indeed’s employer guide, last updated May 11, 2026, says the service is available in 27 markets. That does not mean every metric is available in every market or location; check the dashboard for the country and role you have selected. Indeed’s Hiring Insights guide provides the current employer overview.
Hiring Insights vs. Indeed Analytics
The simplest distinction is market context versus performance of your own job posts. Hiring Insights helps assess the market around a role and location; Analytics reports how your Indeed jobs are performing during a selected date range.

| Question | Hiring Insights | Indeed Analytics |
|---|---|---|
| What does it cover? | Market conditions for a selected role and location | Performance of the employer’s own Indeed jobs |
| What can it show? | Depending on availability: job and candidate supply, competition, salary and search behavior | Impressions, clicks, apply activity, spend and related job-performance measures |
| Is a job post required? | No. Indeed says employers can access reports without posting a job. | At least one job post and appropriate dashboard access are required. |
| What does it help inform? | Role, location, pay and wording decisions | How posted jobs are attracting activity on Indeed |
Indeed defines impressions as appearances in search results, click-through rate (CTR) as clicks divided by impressions, and apply starts as clicks on the Apply button. Those are activity measures, not proof of a successful hire or candidate quality. Read them together and in the context of the selected date range. The Indeed Analytics Help Center article explains the dashboard measures and access requirements.

How to interpret the numbers when planning a hire
Candidate supply and job competition
Job-seeker counts and job seekers per job can help you compare the apparent depth of the candidate pool across roles or locations. They are platform indicators, not a count of qualified applicants who will apply to your specific opening. Indeed describes its competition score as a 1–100 measure based on employer data over a three-month period ending at the selected month, compared with the rest of the country. A higher score means greater competition according to Indeed’s measure; it does not predict how long your vacancy will remain open.
Salary ranges
Indeed says salary values draw on several sources, including employees, users and past and present job postings, covering a period of up to the last 36 months. Use a range as a reference point for assessing whether your proposed pay is in line with the selected market, not as a guaranteed offer level or outcome. Role definitions, location choices and the mix of underlying inputs can matter when comparing figures.
Search terms and employer clicks
Top search terms are terms that led to clicks for the selected titles and locations. They may suggest relevant language candidates use, but they are not a reason to add unrelated keywords to a job ad. Employers receiving clicks can offer another view of candidate attention; a click does not establish that an employer made a hire or that its applicants were qualified.

Trends and time periods
Trend charts can show jobs, job seekers, job seekers per job and employers over time. Make sure the selected period and geography match the question you are trying to answer. The guide’s sample charts are labeled “US, October 2022”; they illustrate the interface and are not current labor-market readings.
Data scope, availability and privacy context
-
Indeed-reported scale: The employer guide updated May 11, 2026 says Hiring Insights uses internal data that includes 580M+ job-seeker profiles and 225 million resumes. These are Indeed-reported figures, not independently audited counts.
-
Indeed’s public pages differ: An Indeed product page repeats the 27-market availability statement but gives different internal-data figures—200 million resumes and 25 million jobs—and cautions that its content may not fully represent the current product. These counts have different stated scopes or timing and should not be combined as if they described one consistent dataset. See Indeed’s Hiring Insights product page.
-
Hiring Lab is a separate research program: Indeed Hiring Lab says it uses anonymized and aggregated data across 60 worldwide labor markets, including job postings, job-seeker behavior, anonymous resume information and public sources. That description concerns Hiring Lab research; it does not establish the full methodology for every Hiring Insights dashboard field. Hiring Lab’s methodology overview describes that research program.
-
Privacy claims are attributed to Indeed: Hiring Lab’s Chris Glynn, Director of Data Science, says its published work focuses on groups and trends rather than individuals. He describes aggregation, minimum thresholds and privacy checks for smaller segments; Indeed says a segment may be aggregated further or not published if it is too small. These statements describe Hiring Lab’s research practices, not a complete technical specification of the employer dashboard. See Glynn’s explanation of Hiring Lab methodology.

Use it as a decision input, not a hiring forecast
A report can help you frame questions: Is the location showing a constrained candidate pool? Does the salary range suggest a pay adjustment is worth considering? Are candidates using relevant terms that your posting omits? Then compare those signals with your own job’s impressions, clicks, applies and spend in Analytics, and apply your knowledge of the role and local hiring conditions. The measures describe activity and market context; the public materials do not establish that any one metric predicts application volume, time to fill or hiring success.
