IC Markets can be attractive when execution quality, low advertised spreads, hosting options and platform flexibility matter more than educational content or access to a broad investing range.

Where IC Markets may disappoint

• Raw spreads are not free spreads. The commission must be added to the spread. Compare the complete round-trip cost, not just a “from 0.0 pips” headline.
• It is mainly a trading venue, not a conventional investment platform. If your goal is to buy and hold shares, a regulated share-dealing or investment account may be more appropriate.
• Leverage increases risk as well as flexibility. A small deposit can control a large position, and a relatively small market move can consume the account’s margin.
• The low-cost account may have practical conditions. Minimum deposits, commission currency, available base currencies, swap terms and negative-balance protections depend on entity and client classification.

total cost = spread cost + opening commission + closing commission + financing + conversion charges

A round trip has a 0.4-pip spread component plus $7 in commission per standard lot, before financing and conversion. The exact dollar value of a pip depends on the currency pair, position size and account currency.

Compare IG’s all-in spread with IC Markets’ Raw account only after matching:

1. the same currency pair and position size;
2. the same trading session and measurement period;
3. the same platform and account currency;
4. both opening and closing commission;
5. overnight financing if the position will remain open; and
6. any conversion, withdrawal or guaranteed-stop fees.

A standard account with no separate commission can be cheaper for small or occasional trades. A raw-spread account can be cheaper for frequent trading, particularly when the spread saving is larger than the commission. There is no universal winner.
