Opscura announced its launch and a $9.4 million Series A on February 7, 2023. The Spain-founded industrial cybersecurity company, previously known as Enigmedia, said the funding would support U.S. growth and help it reach more partners and customers. Its focus is protecting vulnerable operational technology (OT), including legacy industrial assets, with a patented network-cloaking capability designed to work without disrupting operations.
What Opscura is and what changed at launch
Opscura was the new global brand of Enigmedia, a company founded in Spain that had operated for more than a decade. The February 2023 launch brought a new global brand, management team and product upgrades; it was not the start of a newly founded cybersecurity business.
At the time of launch, co-founder Gerard Vidal became chief technology officer and co-founder Carlos Tomás became vice president of engineering. David Hatchell was appointed chief executive officer. These are launch-era roles, not confirmation of the company’s current leadership.
Who invested and what the $9.4 million was for
Opscura announced a $9.4 million Series A, reported by SecurityWeek on February 7, 2023. Anzu Partners led the round, with Dreamit and Mundi Ventures participating. The company said it would use the proceeds to support growth and expansion in the United States, including engagement with additional U.S. partners and customers seeking to protect and connect critical operations.

How Opscura says its technology protects industrial systems
Cloaking deeper OT network data
Opscura describes its patented technology as obscuring data in deeper OT Level 2 networks and at Layer 2, a network layer concerned with communication on a local network. These are related but distinct references: one describes an industrial-control hierarchy, while the other refers to a network layer. The company says its cloaking approach can protect this deeper network activity without disrupting operations.
The intended use is relevant where industrial equipment is vulnerable but cannot easily be taken offline for upgrades or conventional security changes. Opscura connects the cloaking capability with reducing the OT attack surface and protecting legacy endpoints. The launch materials also describe isolation, access control between IT and OT, authentication and deeper OT visibility as parts of its security approach. They do not provide quantified performance results or a detailed deployment specification.

Why low-disruption controls matter
Industrial control systems (ICS) operate processes in settings such as manufacturing, transportation, renewable energy, government and chemical operations. In these environments, taking a device offline may interfere with an operational process, so a security measure intended to work without disruption addresses a practical deployment constraint. That does not establish that every installation is passive or requires no operational planning; the available launch information does not specify deployment steps or downtime for individual customer environments.

This is the company’s stated design objective, not an independently measured comparison of deployment effort.
Is Opscura a replacement for Claroty, Nozomi Networks or Fortinet?
Opscura positioned its products as complementary to Claroty, Nozomi Networks, Fortinet and other ICS-security tools, rather than as replacements for every layer of an industrial security stack. The launch materials do not provide a product-by-product feature comparison, so they do not establish that Opscura duplicates, outperforms or can replace any named vendor.

The distinction matters when evaluating a deployment: Opscura’s stated emphasis is cloaking deeper OT network data, protecting legacy assets and adding isolation, authentication and visibility. The announcement’s ecosystem language suggests a role alongside other security offerings, but it does not document specific integrations, compatibility requirements or a reference architecture. Buyers would need to confirm those details for their own equipment and existing security platforms.
Partners and industrial use cases
Opscura said it had been validated by global partners including Schneider Electric and participated in the Schneider Electric Exchange technology-partner program. Schneider Electric CTO Spain Francesc Juan said: “Opscura addresses multiple ICS use cases, and unlike other offerings, simplifies the processes, people, and technology work involved in protecting critical infrastructure in deeper OT layers.” This is a partner endorsement, not an independent test result.

What a prospective buyer should verify
The 2023 announcement establishes Opscura’s stated purpose and positioning, but it does not provide enough detail to select or deploy the product for a specific industrial environment. A buyer or integrator should verify:
- Which devices, protocols and network segments are supported, especially at the relevant OT Level 2 and Layer 2 environments.
- How cloaking, isolation, authentication and visibility are configured, and whether the proposed deployment changes traffic handling or introduces operational dependencies.
- Compatibility with existing ICS-security platforms and industrial vendor systems, including any specific Schneider Electric integrations.
- What engineering, cybersecurity and ongoing administration skills are required at the site, despite the company’s stated goal of simplifying deployment.
- Evidence from a deployment with comparable equipment and operational constraints, plus the process for testing changes without interrupting critical operations.
These are due-diligence questions rather than product capabilities confirmed by the launch announcement. Current product availability, technical specifications and commercial terms are not established by the 2023 launch information.
What the announcement establishes
Opscura’s launch combined a rebrand of the established Enigmedia business with a $9.4 million Series A led by Anzu Partners and a stated plan to expand in the United States. Its differentiated pitch was protecting deeper OT network layers and legacy industrial assets through cloaking intended to avoid operational disruption, while complementing—not replacing—the wider ICS-security stack. The announcement documents the company’s positioning and funding at launch; it is not evidence of current financial performance or independently verified security effectiveness.
