If your lender has asked for more information, find out exactly what it needs and respond fully and accurately. Check what the application asked you to declare, then contact your broker or lender promptly to clarify whether it wants details about the Revolut account, complete statements, or a correction to your application. The fact that the account was used for gambling does not, by itself, establish what the lender will decide.
First, work out what the lender is asking for
Read the lender’s request carefully and keep a copy. Then check the application and any declaration you signed. The key question is not simply whether the account existed, but what you were asked to disclose: for example, every account, accounts holding deposit funds, or regular financial commitments. The scenario alone cannot establish that the form asked for every account or that leaving this one out breached a declaration.
If you are using a mortgage broker, contact them promptly and share the exact wording of both the application question and the lender’s request. Otherwise, ask the lender directly what information it needs and for what period. Don’t guess at the scope, edit statements, or send selected pages in place of complete records if complete records were requested.
How to respond about the account
- Clarify the request. Ask whether the lender wants an explanation, account statements, evidence of deposit funds, or corrected application information, and confirm the statement period and acceptable document format.
- Explain the account factually. State that it is an old overseas Revolut account, whether it is open or closed, how it was used, and any relevant dates. Don’t describe it as closed or inactive unless that is accurate.
- Correct any inaccurate answer. If you now see that an answer you gave was wrong or incomplete, say so plainly and ask the broker or lender how to correct the application. Whether the omission is material or affects the application depends on the form, the lender’s request and the facts; the information here cannot determine that.
- Provide genuine records requested. Send complete, unaltered statements for the period requested. If the account is closed and you cannot access its history, explain that and ask Revolut what historical records are available.
If the account held any of the deposit, savings, or money for purchase costs, tell your adviser and be prepared to document where the money came from and how it moved. Lenders may ask for evidence of deposit funds, but the documents and period vary by lender and by the account’s location.

Why lenders’ document requests differ
There is no basis here to assume that every lender requires every applicant to disclose every overseas account in the same way. MoneyHelper notes that lenders have their own criteria and may ask for evidence such as identity, income and monthly outgoings. Its mortgage affordability calculator is a rough estimate, not a decision about an individual application.
Nationwide’s published mortgage application proofs guide illustrates how one lender handles evidence: it says Nationwide may ask for up to six months of bank statements depending on circumstances, and that statements requested should be complete and current. Its guidance also distinguishes evidence for deposit funds by location. That is Nationwide’s practice, not a rule that can be applied to an unnamed lender or to every overseas account. The account’s country may also matter; “overseas” does not tell us which jurisdiction’s requirements apply.

The FCA’s CONC 5 material addresses relevant regulated creditworthiness assessments, including reasonable steps to assess income and, where applicable, non-discretionary expenditure. The information and steps depend on affordability risk. It is not a universal mortgage checklist requiring disclosure of every account, and it does not decide the significance of this omission.
Do gambling transactions decide a mortgage application?
The sources available here do not establish that gambling transactions automatically determine mortgage eligibility, or how this lender will assess them. The Gambling Commission’s guidance is about gambling businesses’ own customer checks, not mortgage underwriting. It says: “First and foremost, gambling companies want to keep crime and money laundering out of the gambling industry and do not want their customers falling into financial difficulties.” That statement describes why gambling companies may check customers’ finances; it is not a prediction about a mortgage lender.

For your case, the relevant facts may include what the application asked, what the account did, and what the lender now wants. It is not known from the scenario whether the account held deposit money, received income, carried an overdraft or simply showed discretionary spending. Give the lender a truthful account rather than assuming the transactions will either be ignored or lead to a particular outcome.

If the mortgage application is joint, it is sensible to tell your girlfriend promptly that the lender has asked for more information and that you are clarifying the account disclosure. Keep the conversation factual: explain what you left out, what you have asked the lender or broker, and what records you are gathering. This is relationship guidance, not a legal requirement established by the sources here. The scenario does not establish whether she is a co-applicant.

Revolut’s Mortgages Privacy Notice describes data handling and information requests within Revolut’s own mortgage service. It does not show that an unrelated mortgage lender can inspect a separate Revolut account automatically.
