Huawei discounted its Pura 70 lineup in mainland China in July 2024, cutting prices by ¥500 to ¥1,000 for a promotion reported to run through July 31. The offer came after Huawei smartphone sales rose during China’s 618 shopping period, but that growth figure covered Huawei phones overall—not Pura 70 sales alone. The promotion is over; it was not a permanent worldwide price change.
How much did Huawei cut Pura 70 prices?
The Pura 70 series launched in China in April 2024. In July, Huawei offered temporary reductions of roughly 10% across the lineup. The table compares the cited launch-price references with the reported promotional prices; configurations and the Pro+ launch-price reference vary by source, so check the exact model and storage tier when comparing historical listings.

| Model | Launch-price reference | July 2024 reduction | Reported promotional price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huawei Pura 70 | ¥5,499 | ¥500 | ¥4,999 |
| Huawei Pura 70 Pro | ¥6,499 | ¥800 | ¥5,699 |
| Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ | ¥8,099 (Omdia April 2024 reference; another cited report gives ¥7,999) | ¥800 | ¥7,299 using the ¥8,099 reference; verify exact configuration |
| Huawei Pura 70 Ultra | ¥9,999 | ¥1,000 | ¥8,999 |
The discount amounts, approximate size and reported July 31, 2024 end date were reported by the South China Morning Post. Omdia’s April 2024 pricing references are in its smartphone briefing. These were China-market prices, not guaranteed prices for every storage configuration or overseas market.
What “strong sales” meant—and what it did not
During the 618 shopping-festival period in May and June 2024, Huawei smartphone sales reportedly increased 42.4% year over year, according to Counterpoint data cited by the South China Morning Post. The growth was associated with demand for Huawei’s newer phones, including the Mate 60 and Pura 70 families.

- Built-in magnets to support wireless charging and ensure secure attachment to car mounts.
- TPU + Rigid PC material: makes it more durable and enhances grip. Soft TPU bumper is easy to install and remove.
- Raised edges for added camera and screen protection.
- Precise charging cutouts fit volume buttons, side buttons, and device curves for easy access to all buttons, controls, and ports without removing the case.
That figure is not a Pura 70 unit-sales tally, and it does not show that Huawei beat Apple overall. Apple reportedly remained ahead of Huawei by sales value during the cited period. Sales growth, market leadership by value and the performance of one phone series are different measures.
Why discount a flagship after a strong shopping season?
The reported timing is clear; Huawei’s specific reason for setting the discounts is not established by the cited coverage. Several business explanations fit the facts, but should be treated as analysis rather than confirmed company statements:

- Keep summer demand moving: a time-limited offer can reach shoppers who considered a purchase during 618 but did not buy then.
- Expand availability: early reports described strong interest and difficulty obtaining some Pro and Ultra models. If supply later improved, discounts could help turn initial scarcity into broader sales.
- Compete in the premium segment: a lower transaction price can make a high-end phone more appealing alongside Apple and Chinese rivals without changing the hardware.
- Support retail channels: an official promotion gives authorized sellers a price incentive rather than leaving buyers to rely only on store-specific rebates.
- Manage the product cycle: a mid-cycle offer may help maintain sales as a product ages, though the price cut alone does not prove Huawei was clearing inventory or preparing for a specific successor.
Huawei introduced the range in April as its first flagship generation under the Pura name, which replaced the P-series branding for new products in 2024. The Pro and Ultra entered the initial launch phase on April 18, according to contemporaneous Xinhua reporting; Huawei’s official support material identifies Pura 70 as the first Pura flagship. A discount several months later is compatible with a promotional strategy; it is not, by itself, proof of weak demand.

What changed across the four models?
The products differed in size, camera hardware and charging, so the same cash reduction did not make them equivalent values. Omdia’s April 2024 briefing provides these reference specifications; exact features can vary by configuration.

The lineup uses Huawei’s Kirin 9010 platform in Omdia’s reference specifications. Huawei lists HarmonyOS 4.2 for the series on its China support page. The Ultra had the largest reported cash discount, but at ¥8,999 it remained the most expensive of the four; a larger reduction did not make it the lowest-cost choice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Was the price cut permanent or available outside China?
No. The reported offer was a temporary mainland-China promotion with a July 31, 2024 end date. It should not be treated as a permanent reduction in Huawei’s global list prices, as an offer available in Europe or elsewhere, or as a current 2026 deal. A retailer coupon, trade-in, bundle or later markdown is a separate offer and needs its own current terms.

What should buyers outside mainland China check?
The historical yuan prices are not a reliable estimate of an imported phone’s total cost. A China-market handset can differ from a locally supported model in software, network compatibility, warranty and regional features. Before buying one, verify:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- the exact regional model and supported carrier bands, including whether the network features you need are available;
- where the warranty is valid and whether authorized repair is available in your country;
- compatibility with the apps, payment services, notifications and connected-car features you rely on;
- whether any satellite calling feature is supported by your carrier and local network deployment—Huawei’s support page makes availability conditional on those factors;
- the full landed cost, including shipping, taxes, import duties and any repair coverage.
For a mainland-China buyer, the Ultra’s camera system and largest discount may be compelling if photography is the priority and the higher remaining price fits the budget. The Pro may be a more balanced premium option, while the base Pura 70 had the lowest promotional entry price. The Pro+ requires particular care when comparing prices because cited launch references differ by ¥100 and configuration matters. Huawei’s sales growth does not establish that every model was equally popular or that any one model is the right value for an individual buyer.
