Southwest’s Low Fare Calendar lets you compare the lowest fares currently available on each day of a month for a route. Enter your origin, destination and travel dates, compare the options, then confirm the itinerary, price and fare conditions in the booking flow. The displayed fare is not guaranteed: Southwest says prices and availability can change while you shop.
What the Low Fare Calendar shows
Southwest describes the calendar as a way to see the lowest fares currently available on each day for a month at a time. It is useful when your dates are flexible: instead of searching one departure date at a time, you can compare dates for the same origin and destination. The fares reflect current availability, not a promise that a price will remain available. See Southwest’s Finding the Lowest Fares guidance and its Low Fare Calendar.
There is no universally cheapest day or route established by the calendar. Available fares depend on the route, flight and date, and discounted inventory may sell out. A low fare shown for one search should not be treated as a general rule about which weekday is cheapest. Southwest explains sale availability limits in its Flight Sale Information.
How to compare dates and book
- Choose your route. Have your origin and destination ready. Southwest’s online booking instructions say to enter those details along with travel dates to view flights and fares.
- Search a month of dates. Use the Low Fare Calendar to compare the currently available fares for your route across the month. If your schedule allows, check more than one travel date rather than assuming your first choice is the least expensive.
- Select a workable itinerary. A low displayed fare is only useful if the date and flight suit your trip. Select the option you want and continue into the booking results.
- Verify before paying. Recheck the flight, travel date and current fare in the booking flow. Southwest says fares can change at any time while shopping, and a fare may no longer be available by the time you proceed.
- Review the fare conditions. Compare restrictions as well as price. Southwest calls Basic its most restrictive fare; its Basic Fare guidance says it is non-refundable and non-changeable unless upgraded to a different fare type. The lowest number on the calendar is not necessarily the best fit if you may need flexibility.
If you already booked and find a lower fare
Check the conditions for your specific ticket before attempting to rebook. Southwest’s lower-fare guidance describes a Transferable Flight Credit for the difference when an eligible Choice fare is rebooked at a lower price. Basic cannot be changed unless upgraded to a different fare type. Eligibility and conditions depend on the fare and ticket, so review Southwest’s current fare guidance before making a change.
