Scan the code from the correct Google Business Profile, then test a full-size printed proof in the conditions where customers will use it. Confirm that the scan opens the intended business’s review flow before you print a larger batch.

Get the review QR code from the intended Business Profile

Google’s current instructions say to generate a review QR code in a computer browser; the QR-code option is not available on mobile devices. Open the intended Business Profile on a computer, choose Read Reviews, then Get more reviews. From there, copy the review link or save the QR image. Labels can change as Google updates its interface. See Google’s instructions for sharing a review link or QR code.

Check the digital code before designing the print piece

  1. Display the saved QR image on your computer screen.
  2. Use a phone camera or QR scanner to scan it.
  3. Check that the destination identifies the intended business and leads toward its review flow.
  4. If it points to the wrong business or destination, return to the intended profile, get a fresh link or code, and scan it again.

This scan sequence is a practical validation step, not a testing procedure prescribed by Google. Google explains how to create and download the code, but does not publish a formal QR-code test standard.

Test a printed proof at the size customers will see

  1. Place the QR code in the final design, then print one sample at the planned size and on the intended material.
  2. Put the sample where customers will encounter it. Test under similar lighting and from a similar distance.
  3. Scan the printed code with a phone. Confirm both that the camera reads it and that it still opens the intended review flow.
  4. If the scan fails, adjust the code’s size, contrast, placement, or surrounding artwork, then print and scan another proof.

Do not assume that a code that scans on a bright computer display will also work on the finished print. Google says businesses can print and display the code in-store, but does not specify dimensions, contrast requirements, or a required proofing method. Testing a physical sample before ordering a larger run is practical guidance rather than an official Google standard.

Choose a format that fits where customers will see the request

Google lists receipts, thank-you emails, chat interactions, and in-store printing or display as ways to share a review request. A printed QR code is useful when customers can scan it where they are; a link can be more suitable in an email or chat. Choose based on the customer’s context, the space available, and whether someone can keep a printed piece current if the destination changes. Google does not rank these formats. A tabletop or acrylic sign is optional—the review QR code itself does not require a display product.

Invite honest reviews without offering a reward

Keep the request neutral: invite customers to share an honest account of a genuine experience rather than asking for a particular star rating. Google says reviews must reflect genuine experiences and prohibits offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews. Its policy also prohibits incentives to change or remove a review. Read Google’s review and user-contribution policies.

What customers need to leave a review

Customers must be signed in to a Google Account to post a review. Google says that account does not have to use a Gmail address. If someone cannot proceed after scanning, account sign-in may be the reason; the QR scan itself does not bypass that requirement. See Google’s review-link guidance.
