Verify the offer on the exchange’s official website or app, and check the relevant regulator’s guidance if you are unsure who is promoting it. A headline bonus alone does not tell you what it costs or whether you qualify.
Check the offer’s source before following its instructions
Navigate to the exchange’s official website or open its app yourself, then locate the promotion and its terms. Do not rely on a shortened link, unsolicited direct message, or social-media post as proof that an offer is genuine. A real exchange promotion has contractual conditions; a request from an impersonator to send money to an individual or unrelated wallet is not a normal way to claim a bonus.
Registration checks can help establish whether a business is registered where required, but they do not prove that a promotion is safe or suitable. Japan’s Financial Services Agency warns that fake social-media accounts and advertisements may impersonate celebrities, steer people to messaging groups or scam sites, and pressure them to open accounts or deposit. Its advice is specific to Japan; readers elsewhere should consult their local regulator. Japan FSA warning on social-media and impersonation solicitations.
Read the conditions in the order you would have to complete them
Do not assume that signing up, entering a code, opting in, depositing, and trading are interchangeable. Look for the exact action and sequence required, including any deadline and account-status condition.

Code and opt-in are different requirements
A code may have to be entered during account creation; an opt-in may require clicking a button before depositing or trading. Some offers may require a particular link or account association as well. For example, Kraken’s Competitions 2026 invite-code rules say a new user must enter COMPETITIONS26 when creating an account. A separate Kraken offer required users to press “Opt in” before a deposit or trade. These are dated examples, not evidence that either offer is currently available; check the current official terms. Find the actual deposit threshold and eligible funding route
“Make a deposit” does not tell you which amount, currency, asset, or payment method counts. Kraken’s invite-code example required a $100 USD deposit or equivalent in fiat through approved methods and excluded card payments, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. A separate, now-ended EEA offer required a €3,000 deposit in crypto assets. These amounts belong to different offers and must not be read as general exchange rules.

Check whether funds must settle by a deadline and whether withdrawals reduce the amount that counts. If terms use “net deposits,” determine whether withdrawals are deducted from deposits before eligibility is calculated. Binance.US’s first-time deposit USDUC offer, for instance, required a positive net deposit and was limited to supported states; it expired on 2026-07-03. Binance.US offer terms.
Check whether a trade is required, and what counts
A deposit by itself may not qualify. Kraken’s invite-code example also required $100 equivalent in eligible non-stablecoin cryptocurrency spot-trade volume using the Pro order form. The separate EEA example required €3,000 of eligible trading and excluded some transactions. Read the terms for permitted markets and order types, and for exclusions such as stablecoins, conversions, or tokenised products. Do not infer that every transaction shown in an account’s history counts toward promotion volume.

Confirm account, identity, location, and timing eligibility
Look for new-customer restrictions, required identity verification or account tier, eligible countries or states, and the precise promotion and qualifying dates. The Kraken EEA example expressly excluded jurisdictions where incentives are restricted, including the UK, and ran from 2025-12-29 through 2026-01-31. Its terms are a historical illustration, not a live offer. The Binance.US example was limited to supported states and ended on 2026-07-03. Do not rely on an old article, screenshot, or cached page to establish that a campaign is still open.
Understand delivery, holds, and clawbacks
Establish what the reward is, when and in what form it is delivered, and whether it can be withdrawn immediately. The cited Kraken EEA terms imposed a 45-day withdrawal hold on the reward. Check for other restrictions, cancellation rights, or clawback rules if you withdraw funds or breach the terms. Sponsors may reserve the right to amend or end a campaign, so review the current official version rather than treating an earlier description as binding.

Use a checklist before deciding whether to act
- Source: Is the offer on the exchange’s official domain or in its app, reached independently?
- Claim steps: Is a code required at signup, an opt-in required before funding or trading, or both?
- Eligibility: Does the offer require a new account, identity verification, a particular account tier, or residence in an eligible location?
- Funding: What minimum amount, currency or asset, and payment route qualify? Is the amount measured net of withdrawals?
- Trading: What trade volume is required, within what period, and which transaction types are excluded?
- Reward terms: What is awarded and when? Is it locked, subject to a withdrawal hold, or reversible under stated conditions?
- Dates and changes: What are the start, end, and qualifying dates? Do the live official terms still match the description you found?
- Pressure tactics: Stop and verify if someone creates urgency, promises guaranteed returns, pushes you into a private chat, uses an unverifiable celebrity endorsement, or asks you to send funds to an individual.
Assess the promotion, not just its bonus headline
A promotion can make funding or trading sound easier or safer than it is. The UK Financial Conduct Authority identifies crypto-marketing problems including safety, security, or ease claims that are not balanced by adequate risk emphasis, warnings that are hard to see, and inadequate information about product risks. It expects relevant promotions to be fair, clear, and not misleading. The UK rules apply to firms marketing cryptoassets to UK consumers, regardless of where the firm is based or the technology used; the FCA describes requirements that include risk warnings and positive frictions such as a cooling-off period. If you are comparing multiple offers, compare the eligibility and location rules, code or opt-in sequence, qualifying deposit and accepted methods or assets, trade requirement and exclusions, deadline, reward form, and hold or clawback terms. Also account for any fees and the financial risk of the actions required. A larger headline reward does not establish that an offer is better or that its conditions are worth meeting.
