To set up Wells Fargo online banking, enroll through Wells Fargo’s official website or mobile app, verify your identity, and create a username and password. Have your Wells Fargo account or card details, SSN or Tax ID, current email address, and mobile number ready. You can enroll from a desktop or mobile device; installing the app is optional.
What you need to enroll
Before you begin, gather the details Wells Fargo uses to identify you and your relationship with the bank:
- An ATM/debit card number or credit card number, or a Wells Fargo account or loan number.
- Your Social Security number (SSN) or Tax ID. The current enrollment identity workflow also asks for an ITIN and date of birth.
- Your current email address and mobile number.
Wells Fargo lists the enrollment requirements in its Online Banking Enrollment Questions FAQ; its enrollment form displays the identity prompts.
How to enroll in Wells Fargo online banking
- Open the official enrollment route. Go to Wells Fargo’s website by entering its known address yourself, or open the official Wells Fargo app. Do not use a link in an unexpected text or email to enter banking details.
- Enter the requested identity and account information. Provide the card or account/loan number and personal details requested by the verification workflow.
- Create your sign-on credentials. Choose a username and password that you do not use for other accounts. Avoid using your email address or personal information in either credential.
- Check your email for confirmation. Wells Fargo says it sends an email confirmation after enrollment; once confirmed, you can sign on and manage accounts.
- Sign on using a browser or the mobile app. The app is not required: Wells Fargo supports access through a desktop or mobile browser as well as its mobile app. See Wells Fargo mobile and online banking.
Make your sign-on credentials safer
Wells Fargo’s security resources recommend a unique password or passphrase of at least 12 characters, using uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Do not share your credentials, and consider disabling browser or app autofill for them. A password manager can help you keep a unique password without reusing or memorizing it.

If enrollment or sign-on does not work
Identity verification fails
Check that the account or card details and personal information you entered are current and match Wells Fargo’s records. If you cannot complete the online process, use the bank’s online banking help page for support options.
You forgot your username or password
Use Wells Fargo’s official forgot username or password help to start recovery. If you do not have the information required for an online reset, Wells Fargo lists Online Customer Service at 1-800-956-4442.

An account is missing after you sign on
Online visibility can depend on account type and your relationship to the account, including whether you have signing authority. Follow Wells Fargo’s instructions to manage online account access information; if you still cannot add the account you want, call 1-800-956-4442.
The website will not load or function correctly
For browser access, Wells Fargo says JavaScript and cookies must be enabled. Check those settings if the sign-on or account pages do not work as expected.

Does Wells Fargo charge to access online banking?
Wells Fargo says access to Wells Fargo Online has no monthly or per-transaction fee, and its enrollment FAQ says Bill Pay has no additional cost. Some other online services may have fees, so check the disclosures for the particular service you plan to use.
