The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s advertised $1,250 saving was a real Samsung launch-period offer, not a standing discount. Samsung announced it for eligible trade-ins during the January 2025 preorder period. As checked August 16, 2026, Samsung’s current U.S. pages show lower trade-in headlines, while carrier offers advertise up to $1,100 off under qualifying terms. The best deal for you depends on the trade-in quote, plan costs, and whether you can keep a carrier promotion long enough to receive every credit.
What the $1,250 S25 Ultra deal meant
Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 series on January 22, 2025, with preorders beginning that day and general availability starting February 7. The S25 Ultra launched in the U.S. at $1,299.99, with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configurations. Samsung advertised up to $1,250 in savings with an eligible trade-in during the launch promotion; the maximum was not a guaranteed discount for every buyer or every old phone. Samsung’s launch announcement also described a separate $50 Samsung Credit for eligible customers who reserved. Do not add that credit to the $1,250 unless the applicable offer terms explicitly confirm that the benefits stack.
The launch headline combined trade-in value and promotional value rather than promising a universal $1,250 price cut. The exact trade-in model, condition, configuration, reservation eligibility, and completion deadline could affect what a customer received. The historical announcement does not establish a model-by-model list of devices that qualified for the maximum, so a specific old phone should not be assumed to have earned it.
What offers were listed on August 16, 2026?
Samsung’s U.S. deal pages did not show the original $1,250 launch promotion as a current standing offer when checked August 16, 2026. One page listed up to $520+ in instant trade-in credit; Samsung’s S25 Ultra offers page displayed up to $630 in trade-in savings. These are page-level maximums, not guaranteed quotes. The device, account, configuration, and promotion shown during checkout can change the amount. Samsung was also promoting the newer S26 Ultra, so compare both models’ actual checkout totals rather than relying on an old deal headline.

How to compare the real cost
Samsung direct: subtract the instant credit
For a simple reference calculation, applying a $520 credit to the S25 Ultra’s $1,299.99 U.S. launch starting price would leave $779.99 before tax. That is illustrative arithmetic, not a current quote: launch MSRP is not necessarily today’s selling price, and the page’s maximum credit may not apply to your trade-in or chosen model. Use the current checkout price and the credit shown for your device.

Current device price − confirmed Samsung instant trade-in credit − separately confirmed discounts = device subtotal before tax
Samsung describes its direct trade-in as an instant credit toward a qualifying Galaxy purchase. Its FAQ says Samsung instant trade-in discounts and carrier bill-credit trade-in promotions are generally separate and cannot be combined unless offer terms provide an exception. Read Samsung’s trade-in FAQ before treating two offers as stackable.

Carrier: count the credits and the service commitment
T-Mobile’s product page showed a $1,299.99 full price and example financing of $54.17 per month for 24 months when checked August 16, 2026. Its advertised maximum discount is tied to qualifying plan and trade-in conditions and is generally paid through an initial credit and monthly bill credits. Taxes may be due on the pre-credit price, and a device connection charge may apply. A $0-per-month or “free” device claim does not mean the service, taxes, fees, or upfront costs are free.
To compare a carrier deal fairly, calculate the phone credits separately from the cost of service. Include any extra plan cost you would incur solely to qualify, upfront taxes and fees, the trade-in value you give up, and the unpaid device balance or credits you could lose if you cancel, change plans, or upgrade before the promotional term ends. Check the individual offer for its credit duration, new-line or upgrade rules, and unlocking policy; the headline alone does not establish those details.

Effective carrier device cost = financed device price − promotional credits actually received
Incremental commitment cost = added plan cost over the credit term + upfront fees/taxes + credits forfeited or balance due

- Samsung direct: A strong fit if you want an unlocked purchase, an immediate discount, and freedom to change carriers. Compare the specific instant trade-in quote with your carrier’s offer.
- Carrier: Consider it if you already have the qualifying plan or would choose it anyway, expect to stay through the entire credit period, and the account-specific offer beats Samsung’s quote after plan costs.
- Sell the old phone: Get an independent resale estimate as well as Samsung and carrier quotes. Compare the net amount after marketplace fees, shipping and insurance, time, fraud or dispute risk, and any remaining balance on the old device. A carrier maximum may be better for an eligible flagship; a direct trade-in quote may be lower than a realistic resale for another model.
- Wait or consider used/open-box: If you have no trade-in or current offers are weak, compare future direct discounts or reputable used/open-box listings. No reliable August 16, 2026 used-market price is established here, so check the seller’s return policy, warranty, IMEI status, battery and screen condition, and carrier compatibility rather than assuming a particular price.
How to check Samsung’s trade-in quote
- Open Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra offers page and select the storage and connectivity configuration you want.
- Choose the trade-in option and enter the old phone’s manufacturer, model, carrier or storage details when requested, and condition.
- Review the credit displayed in the cart and compare the resulting subtotal with the no-trade-in price and a carrier quote for your own account.
- Read the trade-in terms, including condition requirements and return deadline, before submitting the order. Do not assume a carrier’s condition rules apply to Samsung direct.
- After the new phone arrives and you understand the trade-in instructions, back up the old phone, remove account and device-finding locks, and factory-reset it.
- Photograph the phone powered on and its condition, record its IMEI or serial number, and keep packaging and shipping-label evidence. Ship it within the stated window and retain tracking and the receipt.
How to keep a carrier discount from disappearing
- Confirm the offer’s qualifying plan, line status, trade-in model and condition, credit duration, and whether it requires a new line, upgrade, or switch.
- Check whether the old phone has an unpaid installment balance; trading it in does not automatically erase what you owe your current carrier.
- Ask what happens to remaining credits if you cancel, change to an ineligible plan, pay off the phone, or upgrade early. Monthly credits can stop while a balance remains.
- Meet the trade-in shipment deadline and retain proof of the phone’s condition and delivery. For T-Mobile, the published general guidance says return within 30 days; the order’s terms control.
- Do not count a carrier credit as cash in hand. It is worth the advertised total only if you satisfy the requirements and receive the full stream of credits.
Is the S25 Ultra still worth buying?
By August 2026, Samsung’s U.S. deal hub was promoting the S26 Ultra while still showing S25 Ultra offers. Compare the actual S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra checkout prices at the same storage tier, then consider the newer model’s generation advantage, including processor, camera, software-support horizon, connectivity, battery behavior, and expected resale value. The available offer information does not establish a like-for-like current price gap or a performance comparison, so those details should be checked against the configurations and prices you are considering.
The S25 Ultra can make sense if its effective price is substantially below the S26 Ultra and it meets your needs. If the price gap is small, do not let the S25 Ultra’s 2025 maximum launch savings make an older model appear cheaper than it is today.
